I have several boxes of Speer DWM virgin cases; 8MM Mauser, 32 Winchester Special, 30-30 Winchester. All are packaged in 20 round slip top cartridge boxes utilizing an adjustable insert that can be adapted to different size/length cases. The boxes are bright yellow reminiscent of the old Flambeau brand plastic cartridge and tackle boxes. The boxes are marked Speer DWM, made in Holland.
My question is: When were these marketed in the U.S.?
The cases are head stamped DWM 8X57js.
Anyone remember these? I've had them close to 20 years.

Kraut talk--DWM
Deutsches Waffen Und Munitionfabriken
Mfr of early Lugers--around 1908................
Don't know when sold in USA

I can remember seeing some Speer DWM cases around in the Mid 70s. Seems like Speer #9 manual listed Speer DWM cases in a few calibers. Can't seem to find my #9 to confirm.

I weighed some of the 8MM cases looking for variations, it is the most consistantly uniform I have ever seen. I compared it with some new/old W-W Super 8MM. The W-W was good but not like the DWM. I had some Lapua 7.62X54R and it was a wider spread than the DWM. Tried some new Norma 8MM, it was good but the DWM was the most uniform of all the brands.
Very interesting!!!

The 70s

I have several 20 rd boxes of Speer/DWM 30-06 once fired loaded rounds and several boxes of once fired virgin brass I bought off a guy on St Simons Island, GA, in 1982. Used to see them in gun shops/Gibson's Discount Center... You just reminded me of them & I think I'll dig 'em out & load 'em up

Hey folks,

I had an FFL for many years, and when my local distributor put a sale on the Speer/DWM ammo, I would buy cases of it for resale. It was very good ammo, and I still have several hundred DWM cases in .357 that I am still reloading. When did I get them? I think it was in the mid 1970s, and I also think they parted company by the mid 1980s.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
