A friend recently gave me a box of Speer 100 grain Plinker bullets in 30 caliber. I want to load a few of these up for my .308 Winchester but have not been able to find any load data online. I have an old Speer manual that is too outdated to be considered reliable. I don't normally buy Speer bullets so I don't want to buy a new book for just one load. Does anyone have any experience with this load using IMR 3031 or IMR 4895? Any input would be much appreciated.

Those half jacketed bullets are not really good for much other than a plinking or small critters load and aren't recommended to be run at top pressures.

That said, you might look in that old manual and see what loads may be in it. The powders may have changed slightly over time, but not enough to worry about if your only using the start up to mid range loads for these particular bullets.

If you have access to some H-4895 you might try looking on Hodgdon's loading site and pull up the reduced load PDF and find a load using that info. I used it to load for my oldest grandson when he wanted to start hunting at the ripe ol age of 3. He did well with the 125gr BT on his first hog two weeks before his 4th birthday.

Another thought is to do a search for "The Load", by Ed Harris. This might work out well for them also. It will give you plenty of velocity for small critters and reduced recoil for an easy shooting fun load.

Hope this helps.
