I'm going this weekend to shoot sporting clays and I have not shot since last fall, I am trying to decide which semi-auto to take. I have a 20 guage and a 12 guage. for the 20 I have a case of #6 shot and for the 12 I have #7 1/2. I believe either will work but will I be able to shoot a full round with the 12 guage or after 5 months of not shooting will I punk out half way through. Any one who shoots sporting clays or 4 rounds of skeet in one day might understand. The 20 is light and swings fast and the 12 is heavier and tracks better. Any suggestions??

#6 shot isn't optimum for clays shooting, plus it might not be allowed where you're shooting (it travels farther than smaller shot). I like a heavy gun for clays, so I'd use the 12 gauge.

If you're worried about shooting just a hundred rounds, get some 2 3/4 dram equivilent, 1 ounce target loads. I can shoot 300 of those in a day with no discomfort.

If one of them is a semi auto take that one especially if it is the 12 ga. like hog said the 6 shot may not be legit where you are going so use 7 1/2 or smaller whichever gun you use.

If it is a regular club, (meaning not some friend's pasture), 7-1/2 is the LARGEST shot size permitted, so take your 12

I shoot the lightest loads I can in all my gauges - that allows me to shoot 200 and even 300 shots per day in Sporting Clays

Heavy gun (that FITS!) + Light target loads = Low recoil = all day fun

Thanks guys, I was thinking I would use the 12 guage, this settles it. Now if the weather will cooperate it should be a good time.
