I have noticed that it is very hard to get just about any handgun from Springfield Armory. I tried for a solid year to get a stainless steel GI-45..... still can't get one. I finally found a parkerized one about a month ago, and the guy at the gun shop says that the distributor only had three  . I have been trying for months to get a XD-357, no gun shops are able to get them. What is with that company, don't they like making money??? I have a few GLOCK's and I am no longer interested in buying any more, but I may just have to settle for a GLOCK 357. I find it strange that a GLOCK 10mm is very easy to get, and getting any gun from Springfield is harder than landing a man on Mars :banghead: !

I know that I can't be the only one, anybody experience this also??

Wow! I've never had a shortage of SA's here in Miami. In fact I picked up a SA GI 1911 HiCap a few gun shows back. Plenty at the last show. I'll let you know what I see today.

We have trouble getting some models here. They make a lot of guns and some just don't seem to be a priority.
The local shop with the most here had 3 EMP's ,two varietyies of Micro-Compact, 2 TRP's(one with rail), one bi-tone 5", and a handfull of GI's as I remember. I have not seen a stainless.

Springfield Armory doesn't make 1911-style guns, they assemble parts bought from other sub-contractors. To a degree what they turn out depends on what parts they can get. If say, for example, frames and slides become backordered production will stop until they come in.

They also will turn out those models that make them the most profit, at the expense of the more basic ones that don't.

Last but not least, they seem to be selling everything they do make, as quickly as they can make it. Not a bad situation from their point of view.

See if you can't find what you want on one of the Internet auctions. They often have what local dealers can't seem to get.

I have no issues finding xd's here, they are every where now, any make and model. as a matter of fact i know where a .357sig service model is right now for $462 out the door, with three mags, and xd gear!

I found 5 in 5 minutes....broaden your horizons and use the net, or wait. I can understand needing to see a $1000+ gun, but we're talking GI here and you are losing valuable shooting time.

Here, they arrive, and fly off the shelves pretty quickly.
Not really a shortage, except in relation to demand.
I still like mine.

SA 1911 in stainless steel

I was looking at some pistols today and saw a used Springfield Armory model 1911 in stainless steel that had a long list of custom work done to it. The asking price was over $800. It was a nice pistol but too rich for my blood. If it sounds like something you might be interested in send an email to [email protected] or check out the web page http://www.am-firearms.com/main.asp. (Not really an online retailer, so the web site is plain.)
