About 8 years ago I bought a brand new Springfield XD40. I couldn't sell that sucker fast enough. I hated it and swore I would never own another. That is until I saw the XDS. I got into it cheap so I thought it was worth a try. All I can say is wow. It is about the same size as my LC9 and actually fits in a pocket better because of the shorter grip. It is a 45 that is smaller than a lot of 9s, wow. This thing also shoots great. I shot it along side of my lc9 and a S&W Lady Smith model 60 in 357 mag. I shot it at least as well as the other two, if not better, wow. This is a keeper.:D

Got one myself. Amazing package, little gun big caliber and it handles pretty well. I was expected a huge amount of recoil but it's very controllable and easy to carry.

I'm more curious what you didn't like about the xd40. I've had one for years and have not had a single problem with it. I actually had the full size before that but wanted a better cc gun.

Only thing I'd consider replacing it with would be an HK or another xd/xdm.

I really like the XDS in 45. It's a great shooter, especially for it's size.

I have held off on buying one in favor of getting one in 9mm though.

My only reservation about the XDS is the grip safety. It's small and on a pocket gun getting a proper firing grip isn't always possible or practical. I'm not sure I can get past that.

I don't mind grip safeties, the XD, XDM and 1911 all have functional grip safeties.
