On SR9 - I had my good ruger experience with my previous P89 so I thought this would be my next 9mm pistol. However, I did let go of the P89 since I find it too big for a 9mm, but that gun was uberly reliable and tough. My likes on the SR9, flat and slim grips almost like my 1911, considering the 17+1 capacity, though I find the gun tall - maybe to accommodate the 17capacity with a very slim grip. Obviously a trade-off; slim and long for the grip, or for the other brands fat and short grip height. Good reviews so far, but creepy trigger as others said on the net (I can live with that).

On M&P9MM - Well, its good enough to be issued to other PDs. Fair reviews over the net, 3rd to the most recommended polymer after the XD... what else ???

And NO NO NO glocks pls.

So help me decide. Thanks.

I had a SR9 for about 2 weeks and traded it on a Browning HiPower. Had a KP95 and got rid of it too. Will never own another Ruger pistol. Ruger revolvers are another thing entirely.

I am also trying to decide between these two pistols. To me the sr9 feels even better than the M&P. However I am still not sure if the sr9 is as reliable as the M&P yet.

If anyone has shot BOTH of these I would appreciate a quick comparison.

This thread is really in the wrong category. I wish it could be moved to "autoloaders."

I like the sr9 much better . Wish i could justfy another play toy, would love to have one. Shot a buddies 40 cal m&p and did not like the feel at all but, go see if your range has a m&p or sr9 to rent. Even hang around as most owners have let me try there guns just to show them off. Bring your own ammo to use and give them the leftover. The sr9 i shot was a gun swap at the range,he shot my witness and i shot his, both liked each others gun.

When I went looking, I shot about 15 different 9mm's. I went back and narrowed it down to 3. The M&P 9 and SR-9 were both in the 3.

I eventually bought the M&P9, and I don't regret it, BUT I really liked the SR-9. It was equally as accurate.

I bought the M&P because it was more comfortable for me.

Both are fine guns, and very high on the value scale!

Both worthy of your consideration.

I especially appreciate the slimness of the sr9. I haven't as of yet found a shooting range that rents guns in my neck of the woods. But I will keep looking. Either that or maybe one day I'll stumble into someone that owns one. If I keep hearing good things about the sr9 I'll probably go with that. As long as it seems the reliability is up to par with my glocks.

I've always had an unexplainable affliction for Ruger. Maybe because they are sort of an underapreciated underdog in the firearms industry.

M&P has a better trigger. I have shot both, and the M&P is the better choice IMO. Ruger says it takes like 500 rounds, if I recall, to break in the trigger. Ruger trigger is very gritty and hard when new. M&P is pretty good right out the box, but I prefer Glocks, and a Glock would be my choice. But of the 2 in your pole, M&P, hands down.

I love my SR9. Shoots nice, very sexy looking(with the shiny stainless slide), and it's a Ruger. Make sure yours in the post recall dual trigger like a Glock.

I a big S&W wheel gun fan. Never much of an auto guy. I decided to get a 9mm auto and did my research. Came down to the M&P or the SR9. On the deciding day I pondered for almost an hour handling both. I'd already shot my friends M&P and it's sweet. Never shot a SR9. I went with the SR9. It just looked and felt better to me. I've never regreted it. But you WON'T go wrong with the M&P. Get what feels right to you. My SR9 has been flawless and so has my friends M&P.

I just got an SR9. It's the OD green version, 17shot model. Let me get the one thing I dislike out of the way: the slide release. It's really tough. I don't think it's going to get easier. On the other hand, I don't want metal wearing in too soon :)

I find the trigger to be excellent. Better than my Glocks 26 and 22C. It's just a bit smoother. The gun is thinner in most places than my 2 Glocks. It feels more natural in my hand.

I've run only 150 rounds through it, but it's perfect so far. I have to say that right from the factory, the machine is tight. Almost too tight. It loosened-up during the 3rd box of 50, but it's really tight (i think i've said that already). You'll build a few muscles racking this thing.

The accuracy is excellent. Better than my G22 and probably better than my G26. The sights are also excellent. The grip is reversible: one side is rounded, the other flat. I've only tried the rounded side and it feels nice.

The trigger is really smooth (maybe I have the enchanted version of the pistol). It shoots like a dream. Fast, slow, in-between; it doesn't matter.
It just shoots great.

The magazines are, at first, really hard to load. After several cycles, things ease up. Still a bit harder to get bullets into them versus the Glock magazines. The gun is so tight that I thought it couldn't possible load, fire, and cycle ammo, but it does and does really well. The overall feel of the gun, after 150 rounds is much nicer than during the first 50. My first impression is that the pistol was more of a workout machine than a gun. Happily - things are just fine now.

All in all, this is probably my 2nd and last 9mm handgun. The Ruger is nicer to shoot than the Glock 26.

Also, inside the carrying case from Ruger is a 1/2 off deal for a Viridian SR Green Laser Sight with free Blackhawk holster! So for the price of my Glock 26 I get a great pistol AND a green laser sight AND a holster to accommodate the gun with sight. It's a steal (well, it's 149.95). I really like this Ruger. It's not better than the Glocks, but it's really different, mostly in good ways.

You are going to eat your words.

i would personally go for the m&p. the ruger is nice and slim, however as of late ruger has been having lots of issues with the sr9, lcp etc, i had alot of trouble with the p345 that i had. the m&p i trust more, and feels better in my hand, and to me it is most like the poly guns that i am used to and love.
