Hi, I just got a new never fired ROA SS , I just bought a Taylor & Co. .45 LC conversion cyl & goes right in frame flawlessly ! cycles 3 of the 6 chambers like butter. other 3 are so tight unless i help the cylinder along(rotate) with my hand it jams & hammer is almost impossible to pull back? any 1 else have this problem?? will shooting it with some heavy loads 255gr 800-850 fps rounds losen it up?? any ideas??

I have a uberti 1858 remmy also & the taylor & co (r&d) cylinder fell right in & worked perfectly? was wondering it if was just a ROA issue with these cylinders?
:banghead:

Thanks would a local gunsmith know how to fix this or should i contact Taylor & co to see if they have a gunsmith who will fit it for me ?? whats best is what im asking?

Considering that the cylinder is brand new, it's a warranty issue. You can still return it without buying it. But once a local gunsmith touches it then it's no longer a warranty issue if he can't get it to work properly.
I believe that's why Taylor's offers the fitting service. It may not even cost more than simply sending it in to them along with your gun.
I would not let a local gunsmith touch the cylinder at all. There's a proper method for fitting it to not affect the way that the cap & ball cylinder fits and functions.
And Taylor's may have even manufactured the cylinder since they were in a partnership with R&D, at least they were at one time anyway.
First ask Taylor's what they suggest that you should do about it. :)

A ROA cylinder is fitted exactly like a modern single action revolver. Nothing special about it. It is not fit like a Remington or Colt clone. I wouldn't ship my gun if a local gunsmith could do the job.

well still waiting for a answer from Taylors , thanks for all the feedback, i did take a piece of 2000 wet sand paper to the front of the cylinder where hammer is & polished it & got 2 more cylinders to rotate with hammer smoothly not going touch it anymore till i get a reply ! didn't change the endplay at all same spec with mic gauge but it is slightly better ! ill keep in touch tell yall how it goes time to join the ROA & Remmy clubs :)

A non-gated conversion cylinder has a separate back plate which makes fitting it different from fitting a conventional single action cylinder, at least in some ways.
For instance, I'm under the impression that the inside of the backplate is the part that is filed/honed to shorten the cylinder length and not any other part of the cylinder exterior.
I'm not saying that's the case here, but that's not the same method used to shorten a conventional cylinder that's a little too long.

Take the empty cylinder and see if it rotates freely. When it stops, take a feeler gauge and see if you can slip it between the forcing cone and the mouth of the cylinder. Report back.

Fixed my problem!! 10 minutes & a few peices of 1000, 1200 , 1500 & 2000 wet sandpaper & all 6 cylinders rotate & lock like butter with absolutly no endplay :) the face where the 6 holes are inboard of the firing pins was alittle roughly cast & machined some minor polishing & action is smooth as glass ! thanks every1 for your relpies, BTW taylors & co told me if i couldnt get it to work ship it to them & they would fit cylinder for FREE! now thats a classy company !
