So, I was wondering if anyone has tried stainless pins in with their walnut media in a dry tumbler?

Might get the cleaning action of SS pins without having to go through the drying process. Might also get a batch of SS pins in a bucket of walnut that is impossible to separate when it didn't work.

Maybe I should keep my thoughts to myself...or order some SS pins and give it a try.

I'd guess the pins will sink to the bottom and not mix with the cases.

But, I have not tried it.

For an added bonus cleaning and shine with walnut media try this..
Add about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of 177 cal BBs !
I've used this in my vibe bowl along with walnut media from harbor freight and also add a few dribbles of new finish. Try it, I think you will be surprised and happy with the results

The mechanical action of the SS pins compliments the cleaning action of water and soap.

I dont suspect it would work well, and I'm betting the pins would rnd up at the bottom of the tumbler when dry.

DO NOT put water into a vibe tumbler. That pin in the center goes right to the motor mount, and it IS NOT waterproof mounted.

Seems like a good way to make walnut dust. Steel pins are not new to the world of polishing and cleaning. If they worked well with walnut media, we would all have been doing it years ago, as would be any other industry that uses them to polish/clean.

Dont they end up at the bottom when filled with liquid? I never saw steel pins float...I intend on trying a tumbler with pins and liquid, I'll hold off on the "dry pin method" results...but who knows? somehow the cases move around with the dry media, pins are so small they may go down and cases not circulate through it? For now, I'll stick to my plans for wet/pin tumbling.

One thing/advantage to wet tumbling is the elimination of media dust, which has been shown to have lots of lead in it. I guess the same lead is in the liquid, but at least not so breathable as the dust would be.

Vibratory tumblers with water and pins won't work, the rotary tumbler keeps the pins and brass mixing and moving.

By tumbler, I dont mean those vibratory pod things. I mean a rotating device designed for steel pin media and liquid. Blarby covered that in post #7.
