I'm starting an 870 project and my intent is to go with 18.5 barrel extended tube, change the stock, and change the finnish. a. I would like to see some pics of your 870 and get some feed back on stock fore end options.

This is a Scattergun Technologies 870 "FBI Model".

I do not like extended magazines, the weapon is heavy and will you could be holding it up a very long time. If you change the stock, ensure that the stock is short. It will make a handier weapon and easier to manipulate. American makers always put waaaay too much stock on their firearms.

Change the finish? O.K., from what to what? I wouldn't both, but YMMV.

Fore end: I like the option of a light, again YMMV.

Is your shotgun-fu so good already that you can really afford to make a remodeling project your first priority? If not, you might want to consider buffing up the software first, before you spend $$$ on hardware.

Your gun, your skillset, your decision...

I got this gun just for "remoleding" . I'm getting it for $150 I know it was brought last year and been in the safe most of the time. So I think I can spare some money to fix it up with the bells and what not. It's going to be my fun gun. I have an Weatherby for hunting.

My "stock options" are oriented toward Trap and wouldn't work with a "tactical" gun. For my HD gun I went with a used Speedfeed stock set from Numrich, nothing fancy. Now mine looks like a parkerized 870 Wingmaster Magnum with black composite furniture.

I just removed the mag extension from my 870; El Tejon is right, the gun was out of balance.

tcrocker,

what type of finish does your 870 currently have? i am assuming that this is an 870 Express with bead blasted blue finish. just curious.

Remington 870 Express, 12 gauge, shotgun. 18.5" smooth bore barrel with factory Iron Sights. Wilson jumbo head safety. Surefire Fore end w/light. GG&G single point sling attachment - the right side of which can be seen in between the butt stock and receiver. Factory Remington butt stock with R3 recoil pad. Wilson Hi Visibility shell follower and stainless steel magazine spring.

This is one of the older Express' and has the aluminum trigger guard. Which is something that in the big picture does not seem to make any real difference in operation but I like it.

This gun is set up exactly as I want it but I am toying around with the idea of getting XS 24/7 Express Shotgun Sights. (http://www.xssights.com/store/shotgun.html)

Regards,
Rob

I was thinking along the same lines as you with the XS ghost ring w/ a ti front sight. I was leaning towards a 20" rifled barrel thow just for the fact that I might get a wild hair and wont to take it hunting.

I got pics uploaded for two Remingtons we've done recently. The first is our demo gun which has an 18" barrel which we cut to 16" then permanently attached the KA-1212BR breaching attachment to make the 18" legal length. The gun was finished in HK black Duracoat.

This gun was a recent customer build with a 20" barrel cut to 18" and with the KA-1212BR permanently attached. This gun also got a SF-III stock, ST no-jam follower, Wolff extra-power mag spring, SideSaddle, and flat black Duracoat.
