Due to the run on ammunition, it has become harder to find brass case ammo in .45 ACP. I have a Kahr Arms/Auto Ordnance copy of the 1927A1. It is the steel receiver model. I understand that brass cased ammo would be best for this weapon but was wondering of the function and wear factors involved in using steel or aluminum cased ammo. This weapon is not a weekend plinker and will only see duty as necessary. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I've found no problems in shooting Blazer aluminum ammo in my XD45. (I shoot aluminum cartridges at the training classes I attend.) I'm not at a point where I will shoot steel cases in it. I reload and have plenty of brass to keep it running.

I dont think its gonna hurt it but if it were mine I wouldnt feed it a steady diet of the steel cased stuff .

I seriously doubt Blazer, who is owned by Federal would knowingly but their name on the chopping block with an inferior product.

This was a new one on me...Blazer was originally CCI...I had to look this one up, I didn't know CCI/Speer/RCBS was under the same parent company as Federal Cartridge now (you learn something new every day, if you're willing to pay attention).

Contact Kahr. My K9 manual explicitly states not to use steel case ammo. No mention of aluminum though, I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem.

Man, if I had one of those it would be getting a full diet of my reloads. Looks like a lot of fun.

With a blowback operated weapon you need the cartridge case to maintain obturation while the bolt is moving back. Brass is a great metal for this as it's springy, but not too springy.

That said, I've run a couple of thousand rounds of steel cased ammo thru my semi-auto Uzi. That weapon functions perfectly with that ammo, which is brass washed steel case made by S&B in the Czech Republic.

I've had problems with CCI Blazer aluminum case ammo and short stroking. Not sure if that was because the Blazer is loaded weaker than the S&B or if it was because of the Al cases.

WWB brass works fine for me but is weak and filthy.

I'd buy some samples and figure out what works best in your gun before I started buying case lots and getting stuck with incompatible ammo. BSW
