Does anyone have it? How does it shoot? I am looking for a carry .357 Sig gun, and this one might fit the bill.

I have enought Glocks - wanna try something different. These Steyrs are a lot cheaper than HK Compacts.

I don't have an M357, but I can't say enough good things about my M9.

Although at $370 I might just have to get an M357, too!

Had one, fired fifty rounds through it, had several FTF/FTE malfunctions. Sold it. Keep in mind:

- No more are being imported by RWS/Dynamit Nobel (Former importer is GSI)
- No date in sight for resumption of importation and start of service and parts availability
- Service will be difficult if needed
- Mags are getting hard to find but available at CDNN

BUT, hey, the price is right.

Yeah I know, all pistols require a break-in period. But, none of my Walthers, H&Ks, Sigs, or Berettas needed one.

Just my experience.

Regards,
James

I have one but have only put a couple hundred rounds through it ... no problems. I like it.

I have found that the triggers on the 357 and 40 cal M/S series guns are better then the 9 mm (more crisp, better release). I am not sure why. It could be a slight difference in tolerance between the trigger mechanism and the different barrels.

I had one but sold it for the reasons Extremist mentioned. You might want to check out the Springfield Armory XD-357. It is my current carry gun.

Same problems Extremist had. Mine is currently in the shop and without a doubt the most troublesome handgun I've ever owned.

My advice is to get a different gun if you think you may ever need it to defend your life.

M40

I got an early M40 (serial 003XXX) and after the first 100 rounds it runs great. No problems whatsoever. And this is with the supposedly "bad trigger" and "bad ejector". The gun broke in with me shooting cheap stuff through it and then giving a solid cleaning.

It fits my hand perfect, and the DA trigger is smoother than a bunch of my SA trigger guns. I wish I could get standard cap mags, but maybe we get lucky this time next year.

My only problem is that I can't find a decent holster without buying a $100 custom. The gun is awesome for carry, 28oz unloaded, about 38oz total.
I also am looking to see if the current service support center (Diamond Trail Shooter's Supply, www.usasteyr.com) carries a 357 barrel to swap into mine. The mags are identical, even a 9 barrel will fit in the .40 slide.

I haven't shot one of the post 1XXXX serial numbers guns, but mine works fine. The shells eject onto my noggin once in awhile, but most of my guns do that...

If they stay available by the time X-mas gets around, I may buy an S40 from CDNN to back my M40 up.

this is the most trouble I have heard of with steyrs and almost seems like a troll posting under different names though I could be wrong. Steyr is supposed to get importation going soon. if you can get parts or help from diamond trail shooter supply you can get help from odells engineering in canada another steyr distributor and repair shop.

I dont dare call the trigger double action its a pretty short and easy pull atleast both of my steyr m40's are. I plan on picking up a m9 and s40 providing I can get them in the $300-$400 range.

not many m357's were imported, cdnninvestments has them though not alot.
m40 and m357 magazines are the same. believe you can get caliber conversions from odell engineering in canada though takes couple weeks to process and little more for travel and import.

if you cant find a holster its because your not looking hard enough online

Smith and wesson sigma's are pretty close to Steyr M. Glock 19 and 23 are medium sized pistols similar to sigmas and steyr m though the trigger guard is vastly different.
sigma hicap mags can work in steyr with modding the magazine catch notch.

I have talked with Gregg Garrett at "www.comp-tac.com" and he can make a holster for the Steyr. I don't know if you are familiar with Comp-tac or not, but if you have Gregg make you a holster, you will not be sorry. I have 2 of their holsters and they are second to none!

Don't forget these guys, very nice holsters at very reasonable prices. They made me an IWB for my M40.

When I was given word they were clearanceing out some of there Slide Guards for the Sig p239 for $29.00 I jumped on it, and started using my Don Hume JIT Slide holster I bought on Ebay for $14.00 plus shipping for my M40. It was real tight at first but I covered the holster in Mink Oil wrapped the M40 in platic wrap to keep the Mink Oil off of it and crammed it in the holter. After I let it set that way for a few hours it fits like a glove.

Also some SA XD holsters will fit the Steyr.
