Stigma

Short answer: No.

If an arm does not work it gets repaired, or it goes back to the factory. If it's repaired & operates correctly, it's kept. Else, it tends to be trade fodder.

As to social stigma, well, water and duck's back. I've been harrumphed at by Fudds and mallninja alike (sometimes over the same arms at different times). The Rhett Butler line applies.

I had a Remington R51 that was supposed to be a Gen 2 made in Charlotte. I had nothing but trouble with it. It was 34,000 in the serial number series. Remington opted to swap it out. They told me I would get a new gun from the Huntsville plant.

What I received was a new gun from the Charlotte plant in the 11,000 series of serial numbers. Not a happy camper but the gun has been flawless for over 300 rounds. I may never trust it but it may operate perfectly or should I say, as should be expected, from here on out.

I may start trusting it at 1000 rounds or so but I may never get to that many rounds with it. Who knows? The gun has a stigma with me and probably always will.
