Stop SB 124 in MO

SB 124 is being proposed right now here in MO. It says that within thirty days of your child starting school, you have to notify the school that you possess firearms or face a $100 fine. It becomes $1000 if death or injury comes from it. Please find your state senators info and contact them. I think it won't go anywhere, but better to play it safe. So I don't report my gun...

My kid takes my gun to school... They fine me $100

My kid takes my gun to school and causes "death or injury"... They fine me $1,000

While I strongly disagree with SB 124, I encourage all to GO READ THE DAMN BILL! It is speaking to STUDENTS illegally possessing. It says nothing about firearms owned by parents. :fire::cuss::banghead: And we whine about the other side's ignorance.

rvn67n20, I agree, ignorance is annoying. That being said, go to the third link in my OP and read line 7 of the summary.

This act requires a parent or guardian to notify a school district, or the governing body of a private or charter school, that he or she owns a firearm within 30 days of enrolling the child in school or becoming the owner of a firearm.

Seems pretty dam clear. Would also make it an offense not to lock up your guns if you have a child. When I was a kid not only did I have access to firearms but I shot with them/hunted with them on a regular basis.
 
This bill will never see the light of day in MO. Both the senate and house are dominated by Republicans (veto proof in both chambers). This gal is just out for a little publicity, and she got it on CNN today. End of story.
 
I was going to say "except alcohol and drugs aren't protected by the Bill of Rights", but I realized that while (not BoR per se) alcohol isn't expressly protected, the ban was revoked.

I said it in another thread on this bill...I'm fine with parents being held accountable for what their kids do, but locks shouldn't be mandated. You should only legislate the crime, and let people live their lives otherwise.
