Storing handguns in car in texas

I am taking a 7 night carnival cruise in June, from the port of Galveston. I have a CCW recognized by TX.

Since carrying on the ship is not allowed, I plan on keeping the gun in the car for the 7 nights. Instead of parking on Port property, I will be more than likely park at EZ Cruise Parking or Lighthouse Parking.

I have read through the texas carry laws, it looks like it would only be illegal to do this if there is a 30.06 sign posted in the parking lot. Can anyone correct me otherwise? Are there any weird laws about the ammo being seperate from the gun?

Also, if I had to park on the port property, would it be illegal if its considered govt property?

Chances of either of the lots being properly posted with a TxPC 30.06 sign is small, but it could happen. I'd secure the handgun in the trunk and not worry even if posted.

If you park on port property and if it's federal, there could be a problem. If it's state or city property, no sweat as 30.06 can't be used to ban licensed CCW handguns.

True, but who's going to search a vehicle legally parked? And many Texas LEOs consider a handgun in the trunk "concealed" if they're looking for a way to give you a ride.

You do realize that a handgun in the vehicle MUST be concealed according to Texas law, right? One does not need a CCW to have a concealed handgun in the vehicle per the latest revision of Texas law which went into effect 9/1/2007. This law was specifically aimed at stopping the shenanigans of the DAs like those in Harris and Travis counties, those DAs who blatantly said they'd ignore the prior revision to the so-called travelling law.

Edit: Now whether it's smart to leave a firearm in a vehicle for 7 days is another matter. That might be one time I'd leave it home. I'm not too trusting of any type of storage facility, be it a parking lot or a self storage facility.
 


Sure, K3, I realize that. That's revised Texas Penal Code §46.02 and I also realize the some PDs, San Antonio appears to be one, where you'll still get the ride even if you beat the charge. Reason for SAPD's possibly behaving this way is the brass may still be in a huff over the law being passed despite the lies they told the Legislature in the 2005 session. Houston and Austin are two other Texas cities who's DAs/CLEOs have an attitude problem WRT concealed handguns.

Have the officials in these cities made any statements about defying the new law AFTER 9/1/2007? If so, can you provide links? Myself, I recall comments being made after the prior revision, not the new one.
 


A member here said that he had been told by members of SAPD to do the ride and let the court sort it out. I disagreed with him saying DA Reed knows the law.

I read elsewhere the Austin Da said the arrest them and let the courts figure it out but don't have a link.
