stripped SBR?

Can I buy a stripped AR lower, form 1 it as a SBR but list "9mm, 5.56, .22" in the caliber box, then engrave it (once my form comes back) and then do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted with it? Any legal issues here? Is the length I list a big deal, as long as its under what a title 1 rifle would be?

just do it ass 223,don't want to confuse the phatheads,make it anycaliber ya want,your not changing the orig receiver,or just leave it blank and put n/a

The latest reports I've heard indicate that the BATFE no longer will accept "multi" as the caliber or length, but a list of each one you might use will be fine -- but you don't have to do that. However, the two most common things to do are to list 1) which ever barrel length and cartridge you plan to set up first, for simplicity sake; or, 2) what ever is the shortest configuration you're likely to put on it.

I've also never heard of anyone having a problem using an SBR temporarily converted to another caliber and/or barrel length than what appears on the form, so it's probably a moot point.

Yeah. What you do now is setup a primary config that you will leave the gun in. Say a 10.5" 5.56mm. Register the F1 as that but you can temporarly throw a different upper on it and use it but it has to be able to be set back and stored as the original config. So dont sell the 10.5" upper. You must be able to put it back to original.

Also, you'll want to get the engraving done before filing the F1. Once the F1 is approved you can build it.

The only reason I've ever heard for doing the engraving first is so that u don't have to ship out an NFA item. If that's the only concern, there, it doesn't matter as the jewelry store in the local mall does engraving for 3bux per word

So just registered it as a 5.56 with a 10.5" and as long as I always have that upper, it doesn't matter if I put a 12" 9mm on it right?
