I'm aware of the $.80/rd US made brass cased stuff.

I'm wondering if there are any cheaper/surplus rounds that use NON MAGNETIC projectiles. I kinda want to try an AK in 3-gun/rifle-pistol matches but my club has banned all magnetic projectiles (even lead core magnetic jacketed). Ideally I'd like either steel or brass berdan primed stuff with copper jackets and lead cores. (so I wouldn't feel bad about losing the pieces of brass I couldn't find)

Ideas? Options? Mexican Match?

If you can find it, Yugo M67 surplus meets your definition. Its brass cased, lead core surplus ammo. Its also corrosive and now, hard to find. However, it still pops up here and there as many hundred thousand rounds were imported during the last decade

I have the same restriction at my local match and use Yugo M67 as well.

It's very well made and accurate ammo, but, as mentioned, it is corrosive.

I know we have at least one member who reloads the steel cased stuff. Personally I am not a fan of doing it but they say for a few loadings the stuff shoots fine.

When I do see new boxer primed 7.62 X 39 it typically runs about $.50 / Case depending on who makes and sells it. When they have it Winchester Reloading Brass 7.62x39mm runs about $24 for 50 count. When they have it.

Overall I would consider getting a few hundred cases and start rolling my own. That or keep looking for the Yugo M67. Considering clup restrictions the options are limited.

That is an excellent defensive load as well. Not cheap, though.
Yeah, which is why I don't buy it. It's the only non-magnetic 5.45x39 ammo I'm aware of, also. (BTW if anyone knows of any other/cheaper non-magnetic 5.45 I'd be glad to learn of it... I'd like to shoot my 74 as well.)

Thanks for the ideas, and I may start reloading for the range I guess. But at matches, the way the AKs launch the brass I'd never find them. I'm not paying .50 per for empty brass and then losing them all after one firing. :D

Have you considered just pulling the bimetallic bullets and substituting copper jacketed lead core bullets. The cases would still be steel, but the I do not think that the cases are the issue. If the ranges are real close, you might get by using 71 grain FMJ .32 ACP bullets in those cases if they will feed. The AK is usually way over gassed and will likely still function at lower pressures with these IIRC .312 pistol bullets. If you rifle is an AK74 using the 5.45 there are not a lot of substitute projectiles in that caliber.

Arsenal brass-cased, boxer primed, non-magnetic, copper jacket, lead core...about 51 cents/round.

This ammo is reloadable

Century is SUPPOSED to get this in soon from Ukraine.
Given the current situation over there, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Steel case, non corrosive, non magnetic copper jacket and lead core.
$324.00/1080

If you can't get that, your best option is probably going to be buying bulk steel jacket ammo, pulling the projos and replacing them with V or Z-Max bullets.

If you purchased ammo loaded with the Uly 8M3 HP's, you could probably sell them for a significant percentage of what you had to pay for the Hornadys.
