Summer carry for P220

Whats the best way to carry a Sig P220 (full size) in the summer time? Summers out here tend to run hot most summer days are at least 90 degrees and it commonly breaks 100 degrees. So i'll be wearing t shirts and shorts (what challanges does this pose?).

I will also be riding a motorcycle (sportbike) sometimes which creates some new issues. How can i carry while riding?

I am new to CCW and i was looking for some help. Thank you for the help in advance.




There is Sacramento, CA. So open carry is not a possibility sadly.

The P220 is nearly the same as a Commander-size 1911 but seems a lot bigger. Good belt, good holster and maybe an oversize t-shirt and you should be good to go. I find that moving my gun closer to 3:30 or even 3:00 helps me conceal much better than 4:00. Appendix carry is excellent for speed and concealability but is very dependent on the carrier's build (and a P220 might be pushing it, especially when you sit down).

I also found an Under Armour tank top that I like to wear as a layer between me and the gun in the summer, under my regular shirt. It's the only one I've ever seen (there's none on their web site) but something similar made out of that "wick-away" material offers decent protection for you and the gun without being too hot or bulky.
 
Will you be riding the motorcycle in shorts and t-shirt?:eek:

In any event, keep anything hard (gun, knife, metal body camera, tools, etc.) away from the small of the back or similar vulnerable areas while on the bike. Bodysurfing the asphalt after a spill is bad enough without impact trauma from hard stuff on your body. Thigh-side cargo pocket might be the best compromise, since a badly bruised leg sucks less than a broken vertebrae or hip...

As nice as it is for holster carry, it's bit much for cc without the right gear....and I ride a motorcycle too, but I wear a cordura mesh jacket even on hot days...learned my lesson once the hard way wearing a t-shirt, but thats in the "motor-cycle crash" forum. The jacket makes it easy to conceal on a shoulder holster or in the breast pocket.

Consider a little Kel-Tec .380 when you're riding or smaller gun.

And can I add please. You should really wear at least long pants and a decent mesh jacket. There's an old saying in motorcycling that many are familiar with "There are two types of riders; those who have crashed and those who have yet to crash". It WILL happen. The side benefit is that you'll be able to conceal that nice P-220.
 
Knight, the CCW law must be a little more lax in the Sacremento area. From what I've read, it's next to impossible to get a CCW permit in the Bay area. We have a daughter and her family in San Rafael is the reason I've done the research. Seems that you have to be the local sherrif's son to get a permit!!!!
