I just brought my new Super Blackhawk back from the store, but my new gun enthusiasm has been dampened slightly by the fact that I can't get the #%&*@ base pin to pull out. I've got the loading gate opened and the base pin latch depressed, but try as I might the pin feels as if it's nailed in place. I've dribbled a bit of oil into the visible gaps in the hope that it might loosen the pin up a bit, but so far no luck.

Has anyone tussled with this problem before, or have any advice to offer?

It's probably rotated out of index. There is a notch in the pin and it IS possible to re-assemble it with that notch improperly aligned.

The base pin latch should move easily, if you feel serious resistance depressing it, that's likely your problem.

You can rotate the pin but it's a pain. Get thee to a gunsmith, or back to the store if its new.

There's no resistance depressing the base pin latch, although I've never owned a Blackhawk before and therefore have no idea how far it should move on its own.

If it was my gun, I'd consider wrapping plier jaws in medium-thick leather and trying to ease it loose. But there's a risk of scratching the finish.

If it was my gun I would send it back to Ruger for repair, It's under warranty why mess with it?

Got it! I had to remove the latch and the ejector shroud before I was able to worry out the pin, but it finally came out. It was just new-gun roughness holding it in place.
