I was on a business trip to Shreveport, LA last week and stopped by the Bass Pro Shpos there to kill some time. They had the Surefire G2 for ~$33 so I decided to see what all the hype was about and dropped the dough for an OD model.

All I can say is WOW! Up to this point I have been a diehard Streamlight fan due to my excellent experience with a Stinger that I have had for almost five years. The Surefire is so much brighter and the quality of light is so much better. The only things I didn't like about the Streamlight were 1-the light had a yellow-ish tint to it and 2-the lack of a tailcap.

The Surefire by contrast has a much "cleaner" light and the tailcap is great. I am afraid I may suddenly start feeling the urge to spend waaayyy too much on flashilghts as well as guns..lol.

BTW- the Streamlight went up for sale early this week.

Surefire 4 sure

I am also a Surefire fan having bought three Surefire lights a Z2 M2 and M3 Combat light. I have bought a KL3 LED head for my M2 so I can convert it into a long battery life light when needed. I also bought two Z48 on/off snap endcaps to use on my M2&M3. As soon as Surfire gets the KL6 LED head in production I will buy one for my M3.

I know what you're feeling, hoss. I bought a 6P as my introduction to the world of high-end illumination tools and haven't looked back since. I've had two G2nitrolon models, though friend's purloin them quickly.

The only other light that I have been similarly impressed with is the new Pelican M6 LED flashlight. I bought one at a gunshow not long ago and really am impressed with the lightbeam quality and the overall construction. For the price, Surefire doesn't have anything that will compare.

FWIW, do a search for my recent post on the Suarez Finger Ring Modification. Makes using/carrying the lights a whole lot easier, especially for us armchair commandos.

I bought a e2 and a g2 to try surefires out. Im currently selling the e2, and have three g2s now. One is mounted on my ar, one goes on my belt at work, and the third was in the car. Great lights that cant be beat for the price.

Be careful......Surefires are addictive. I started with a G2.....next thing I knew, I bought an L4. Now I want an M4.

:(

Get out while you still can!

Did you check out the Streamlight Scorpion? It is very similiar in size to the G2, also runs on two Li 3Vs, has a tailcap, and is very bright.

By circumstance I have one of each. I had tried recently to order another Scorpion from Botach, but they were on backorder so I decided to try the G2.

Either one is about $25 online, so why not get one of each?

I have a Streamlight Scorpion, a Surefire G2 and several Brinkmann Legend LX lithium xenon.

The Scorpion is far far better than the G2 which in my opinion has a poor tailswitch setup.

Just my opinion, but I think the $20 Brinkmann (available at WM) is a far better light than the G2. It has a better switch, an aluminum body and an adjustable focus light beam.

p.s. the light output is about the same on each.

Legend LX info here.

dont..dont...dont...

aim the Surefire at your eyes, when you read about someone saying how bright their Surefires are. :scrutiny: <--- thats me a few minutes ago.

Surefire throw out yellowish light when the batteries are about to go. Plus, the don't really fade out, its like one time you have some light, the next, its totally out.

The Brinkmann LX I have has the worst switch of any flashlight I've ever used.

I also happen to dislike the Scorpion. It's just nasty in my opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of the G2 apart from in yellow, and not as a carry light but as a light we have mounted in key locations with a few glowrings and PhotonII's on the lanyard for a light to grab if needed.

The G2Z is a far better use of Nitrolon in my opinion. For a carry light I currently prefer the L4 or L2 but that' just me.

I believe they are designed that way.

That's the nature of the Lithium batteries - pretty much any light that uses the lithium cells will act the same when the batteries get too worn.

I have never had a problem with my Legend LX's and prefer them over the G2 after I had my Nitrolon turn on in my jacket pocket and almost set me on fire.

I like my Scorpion best of all.

For a better tailcap switch in a budget light one could try the Brinkmann Maxfire LX, which is basically a copy of the GS Nitrolon. It's 20 bucks at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

Oh yeah, and the Streamlight Scorpion is brighter than the G2 and well-built for about the same cost.

I agree about the tailcap. It turns too easy IMO, I made an alumimum shim to go between the tube and the tailcap, I cant remember what thickness I used (.090" I think) but its perfect. It keeps me from spinning it around accidently and draining the battery, but I can still twist it to keep the light on.

I also like how its made out of ugly plastic. Its one of me my car lights so it gets bit, dropped, and rolled around on pavement on a somewhat regular basis and it doesnt bother me at all. If it was made out of pretty aluminum I'd be singing a different tune...

My other car light is a 6 D cell maglight...

[edit] Just remembered something funny. I came in from the range one day and out of habit I put some of my stuff on top of the piano. Mom picked up my G2 and asked about it, namely how much it cost. When I answered she asked why I would pay $30 for such a little flashlight, then she shined it in her own eyes (stupid move), then says "Oh, that explains a lot," she then handed it back to me, turned around, and walked directly into the wall. Eventually I stopped laughing long enough to make sure she was OK, then had to walk her to her room.

VaughnT,

Could you repost your Suarez Finger Ring Modification? Did a search for it, and couldn't find it.

Thanks,

Michael
