Suter's Choice 9mm 125gr LRN reloading info

Does anyone have any reloading data for Suter's Choice 9mm 125gr LRN bullets? I am using Unique 4.2gr, but I am not sure of min OAL when seating bullet. If I seat it at the ridge of the bullet, I have an OAL of 1.117". Lee reloading data for a 125gr Lead Bullet with 4.6gr of Unique shows a Min OAL at 1.150". I just do not want to overpressure. I am still new at reloading.

Try a light charge of Red Dot powder under ANY 125 LRN cast. I use 3.5 grains and they will SHOOT out of a CZ85 and yes even a Glock 17...ah the dreaded no cast bullets out of Glocks...yeah whatever.

Use a FMJ round as a "length gauge" and go with that. No issues at all

Checking my Speer book, they show an OAL of 1.130 with their bullet so it would seem somewhere in that area would be reasonable.

Determining OAL should not be a guessing game. Bullet nose profile/ogive will often vary from published "tested" load data and I usually recommend reloaders use their own pistols/barrels to determine the OAL to use. Longer OAL that will reliable feed/chamber will allow the bearing surface of the bullet to engage the rifling sooner and produce more consistent chamber pressures, which results in more consistent shot groups.

1. Max OAL - Using your barrel(s) out of the pistol, drop in a dummy round (no powder, no primer) starting at the SAAMI max OAL (1.169") and incrementally decrease the OAL until it drops in freely and spin without touching the rifling.

2. Ideal OAL - Once Max OAL is determined, function test by feeding from magazine and manually releasing the slide. Incrementally decrease the OAL (like in .005") until you have reliable feeding/chambering when the slide is released.

3. Powder charge work up - I usually compare the current powder manufacturers' website data with most current published load data (Lyman 49th, etc.) to determine the average start charge and work up towards max while looking for loads that provide reliable slide cycling/case extraction while producing smallest shot groups consistently.

and then find the OAL (Under 1.169) that will feed well in your guns(s).

Use most any 124/5 Gr RN lead data, as long as your OAL is as long or longer than the one in the load data..

I've used those bullets and other brands that use that same bullet mould, and I use 3.9 grs. of Ramshot Zip, holding my OAL to 1.125. I shoot this out of my Sig 226 all the time. LM
