The Swedes used blanks with hollow wooden bullets to make them easier to feed. The threaded muzzles are for a device designed to break up the bullets and make sure no splinters hit anyone. Not all rifles have the threaded muzzle, so apparently only rifles use in some types of training used the device. If you want to cover the threads, I believe Gun Parts Corp. (www.gunpartscorp.com) sells a cap that screws on the threads and restores the appearance of the rifle.
As to value, those guns, depending on condition, are going for around $200-300. In 100%, they can reach $400. The sling, bayonet, and muzzle attachment can increase the value.
Incidentally, if you want the actual attachment you can get them for $27.85 plus S&H also from Gun Parts Corp (www.gunpartscorp.com). It is kind of a neat accessory to have.
Sarco has them too, but GPC is a MUCH better outfit to deal with.
