howdy gang..

Quick question.. . Do black synthetic stocks get overly hot in the sun? I am going to place my order for the Rem 870 express synthetic today but am wondering if it will get too hot in the sun.. If so.. I might want to get the wood furniture instead..

Lemme know what you think..

I realize it's going to get hotter than wood but does anyone feel it gets so hot that it is hard to handle? I live in the southwest so its most always warm and sunny..

thanks,
Jerid

The factory synthetic stocks are cheesy & cheap in my opinion. I bought a set for a friend's MM and I was embarrassed at the quality. I replaced them with a set of Hogue over-molded stocks and they are far superior in every way.
I liked them so much that I bought a set for myself and built an EBSG in honor of the DNC last week. This may not seem like a big deal but I am a hardcore wood furniture guy. The hogues were so nice that I swapped out a set of perfectly fine walnut police stocks for them.
I do like the grey plastic that Remington is putting on the new Competition Master 1100's but I was so unimpressed with the factory plastic that I doubt I'll ever go there.

I like wood too BUT this is intended to be a beater and I dont care for seeing marred wood. The hogue stocks look nice.. I'll be looking into getting that later..

I'll vouch for the Hogue overmolded stocks. I got a set at Cabela's for $30 and I am very pleased, much better than the $10 set Remington gives you.

I got stuck prone in the middle of a clearing once, Fort Knox in June. 95+ temperature with the sun blazing down plus humidity. The fact I had a large white guy and a large black guy pinning me down didn't help. But the stock on my M16A2 was while warm, quite fine to hold onto. The reciever however, was HOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Burning hot in fact. Found that out when I finally got up (forty minute or so under that sun is not fun). I'd been a "shellshocked" guy in an exercise, I got to go nuts and see what the squad leader would do (he nearly shot me with blanks, but we were on a recon so he had our two resident football players clothesline me).
