I have a .357 barreled TC contender . New gun, I have had it to the range twice. Once it is warmed up (not hot) it starts stringing high and to the left by 6 inches. It starts stringing after only 5 shots obviously not in rapid succession. Anyone else have any similar experience? I am thinking it isnt the scope because groups are tight.

I have a Contender in .30-30 with a 14" barrel and often shoot 10-15 rounds right after the other and have never had accuracy effected that bad. Could be the specific barrel is just temperamental. Have you free-floated the barrel?

I have not done that. I assume you channeled out the forend everywhere that doesnt touch the barrel studs. What did you use to remove material and how much did you remove?

Two things.

First of all put a washer between the forearm mounting studs and the forearm. You will get all the clearance you need and can eliminate that potential problem. You can fine tune that spacing later with thinner washers. But the key is that the forearm only rides on those studs anyway.

I have found that most Encore/Contender vertical stringing problems are a head space issue. Go over to www.bellmtcs.com/ There is a ton of information on setting up your Contender.

Once you get the head space right you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

Got rid of my Contender years ago, but I never had anything like what you are describing...

Those short stiff barrels never wandered no matter how hot I got them...
