Anyone who has been involved in firearms to any degree has been exposed to the term 'Tactical' more than once. Is it just a slick marketing approach to suck in wannabe SpecOps types? Wannabe SWAT types who watch Flashpoint at every opportunity? Perhaps they wear cammos while engaging in Facebook Warfare with some joker who pissed them off at some point. The possibilities are endless.

Industry leaders and the runners up know that for the most part, they can add the word 'Tactical' to most any product and a fair amount of the shooting community will suck it up. The serious shooters and the real operators don't get sucked in.

They sit back and chose what they need to neutralize a threat or resolve a particular problem.

It's that simple and thus you have defined the word 'Tactical'. Philosophy of Use. To either neutralize a threat or resolve a problem and/or challenge, you have to identify what you're facing. What is the challenge? LIN (Locate, Identify, Neutralize). The tactics or methods you need to address the situation include the firearm you choose.

Therefore, if you are about to enter an extremely serious air rifle match, you will need the very best money can buy just to be competitive. How does 'Philosophy of Use' fit into our world of air gunning? When purchasing your rifle, pellets and any other equipment, think first of what your intended use is. Your latitude for going beyond your needs depends on your financial wherewithal and your personal interests. An air rifle capable of placing 10 shots in one hole at fifty yards would be great for pest control, but is it needed? We all rationalize our wants and needs, don't we?

In closing, we all want the best. Big bucks gear capable of doing the near impossible sometimes. If you can rationalize your want/need for buying a Lamborghini to drive to work and you can afford it, go for it. But, if you are like some of us who must live paycheck to paycheck sometimes, We just gotta drill down. Locate and identify the problem or challenge in front of us and develop the tactics/methods to deal with it. If funds are driving our decision, get what you can afford so long as your choice(s) are capable of meeting the challenge whatever that may be.
