While, I don't have a P-07 Duty in .40 quite yet.

Some new ammo arrived today.

666.jpg

Powerful loads for defensive use with the Nosler JHP.

Mike also sent me some 38+P ammo to go with the 9mm and .40 S&W fodder.

The classic 158 grain SWC in a +P high velocity platform.

I've shot DT 158 gr. Gold Dots out of a SP-101.

So, this looks like it will be quite interesting out of my Ruger LCR.
666.jpg

Prefect snubby ammo for the traditional types who have long counted on the
.38 +P SWC for defensive duties.

Then there is the Barnes TAC-XP load in 9mm.

I've used the Double Tap 124 and 147 gr. Gold dots for years in my CZs other than
the RAMI, but this new load (to me) is quite interesting.

Long the darling of many a internet forum member. The solid copper JHP
as found in the DPX load has built up a good reputation.

Mike's load is faster, and that's the DT trademark.

High velocity, and High quality control!

The Barnes bullet in any loading seems expensive, but will pay for itself
a thousand times- if you have to only use it once with success.

Given the cost for the 20 round boxes from other companies, the
50 round box from DT isn't that much more, or even a bit cheaper.

I'll be testing some of these loads thru my CZs and LCR in the near future.

Know that DT has new caps and will probably be getting in more t-shirts.
contact me for pics is interested.

Some of those velocity figures are moving right along! The 180-grain .40 at 1108 fps exceeds the original loading (~950 fps) considerably. I would reserve these for a full size gun, though.

Double Tap is what I carry in my .45 and I've been very happy. a 230 gn gold dot at 1000 fps is nothing to sneeze at.

In fact I have another order pending with mike as we speak.

are his numbers for real/ realistic in standard length bbl's? That's pretty stout stuff if so!

They have been very close in the 10mm stuff I have tested. within 15fps+-... DT lists the type of gun they test in on their site. If you pick the same gun, the results should be pretty close.

DT in .45 ACP is quite nice also.

I've only shot it in 185 gr. JHP,

but know others who carry the heavier 230 gr.

I wanna try some of that 38spl stuff in my Taurus Ultralite...5 round only, I may need a new hand afterwards. But what a 5 rounds it will be!

I carry DT's 158gr. .357mag Gold Dot in my Ruger SP101.

Out of the 3"bbl, I get about 1325fps. That's some serious medicine.

CZF- when you shoot the stuff, please write up a range report. I'd be fascinated to hear your impressions.
I just let my Kahr K40 look at your photos and he immediately ejected the mag of Hydrashoks and told me he wants DT ammo.

My 3" SP101 is my carry and home defense firearm. I'd be interested to hear about the felt recoil, follow up shot times, and accuracy of that ammo. Have you tried their 125gr offering?

That .38 Special is absolutely going to overpenetrate. The reason the +p LHP does not is that it just about always expands and is going at a lower velocity. This load is a law suit waiting to happen!

Id watch out for over penetration with that .38, I know my first instinct is the jump behind the guy the gun is pointed at when i hear a loud BANG! :banghead:

Either that or it's a good choice for woods carry if you don't have a .357. It may be a lawsuit waiting to happen (in today's world, what isn't?), but I see no reason to jump to the conclusion that it's being put to a use it shouldn't be.

Yeah, that SWC seems to be more something that would be useful to fend off a black bear rather than for social work. It's a shame it's not a SWC HP because at 900+ fps you know that lead is going to open up like an umbrella.

Everything I have heard about Double Tap ammunition is good.

But it's hard to see why I would choose any of the JHP options over Federal HSTs, their terminal ballistics and consistent expansion are hard to beat.

Double Tap seems to cater primarily to shooters who want high horsepower rounds, I just don't think that max power loads are always the best option with all factors considered.

I've been using DoubleTap ammo for a few years now, it's top quality ammo without a doubt.

I've shot their .38 Special +P, .357 Magnum, 9mm, .45 Auto and .45 Colt ammo and all performed as advertised and at or near the claimed velocities. It's accurate ammo too.

Is over-penetration any worse than a clean miss insofar as innocent bystanders are concerned?

Know your target and what's behind it and don't miss!

Every time you pull the trigger there is the possibility of a lawsuit, that is one of the consequences of using deadly force in your defense in todays world.

Do you think the police will buy the thought that they were not "innocent bystanders"... they were the bad guys backup?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.
I have not tried their 125gr offering.
The 158 is pretty harsh. Makes a HUGE boom. It was pretty uncomfortable for me with the stock grip. However, since I put the Hogue Monogrip on it, I have no problems. It's still harsh, but I can get back on target pretty well. Then again, I'm a recoil junkie, so I don't mind putting in the training time to be able to handle it. Now, I will say that I keep it loaded with the 158's while I am CCWing out and about. When the SP101 is playing nightstand duty, I load it with Gold Dot Short Barrel .357mag. I wouldn't be thrown off by the blast/flash/boom when I'm awake and especially if outside. But in the middle of the night, with my eyes adjusted to the dark, and being half asleep I can tell that I would be completely blinded, deafened, and disoriented.
