"They had a gun to our head. They took hostages, and they promised to start shooting." This is not the complaint of a victim of a horrible crime -- unless democracy is a horrible crime.

This is, instead, the protest of California Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg. She was describing the trauma she faced from a citizen initiative to reform her state's workers' compensation system. California's new governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, had used the initiative drive as leverage against legislators, who quickly realized that if they didn't reach an agreement with Governor Terminator something worse would happen: voters would go even further.

Gov Ah-nuld is apparently proving quite adept at using a tactic much like Reagan used: going over the heads of the Legislature directly to the people. At the state level, it can be even more effective, because Reagan couldn't use the threat of a citizen's initiative on Congress.

Now, if only we could bring him around on RKBA.

Jackie Goldberg is just another hysterical lesbian leftist, the kind that makes me soooo proud to live in California.

Governor Schwarzenegger said he would do exactly this BEFORE he was elected. He will use his celebrity status to override the corrupt legislature when necessary. More power to him.

Workers Compensation is a huge issue in this state, causing the cost of business to be prohibitive and propelling business out of the state. Las Vegas Nevada is not too far away and growing like crazy. Nevada has no income tax and much less regulation.

If someone had told me a year ago...

...that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be Governor of California, I would have laughed at them.

If they had told me he'd be one of the best governors that California has seen in decades, I would have backed away slowly and dialed 911.

But he's doing a hell of a job! It's weird. But hey-it works.

:uhoh: :scrutiny:

Be careful before you paint him do much. The leftists think Bush will sign the AWB renewal :neener: .

Has the Guv done anything against RKBA? Is it even on the agenda?
True, PRK needs a rollback, but one thing at a time.

Although I do not like Dictatorships, California needs one right now, and Arnold is on stage. Fortunately, he is benevolent to business and taxpayers, the engine of the state.

He better use it while he has it. The Legislature is feeling cornered.

One thing that would be interesting to see...and would really annoy the legistlature, is a change in how legislators are elected. Either go with multi-member districts (seats in each district allocated to parties based on percentage of the vote) or allocate half the seats proportionally. THAT would really get the legislature's panties in a bunch.
