It looks pretty cool and it's a S&W but I don't know anything about Talo. Do they charge way too much? Do they add any value to the gun like trigger work or custom sights or anything?

Anyone have any info or opinions on Talo? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean these?

Just a special run for the distributor. Cost wise, I just bought a 5 incher cause I like unfluted cylinders and wanted a 5'' barrel. Don't see those in a 686 much, unless it's special run. Cost me $10 more than a standard 6'' 686. Probably change those pretty wooden stocks for somethin' rubber for everyday use. Gave my 6'' 686-4 to my youngest when he turned 18 in January. Just couldn't take not havin' one. I was keepin' my eye out for somethin' slightly used when Talo came out with these.

From what I understand, Talo is a distributor, like Davidson's or Lipsey's. So the manufacturers, like Ruger or S&W upon request will make a special run for a distributor, and add something special like grips, finish, barrel length, and/or sights to make it unique. The distributor will then have that configuration exclusively and charge a premium for it. From what I can tell the Talo 686 has an unfluted cylinder, white outline target sights, and special wood grips. If its worth it to you to have something a little special go for it. I did for a Lipsey's Ruger Mark III, its a nice gun and pretty unique and for me it was totally worth the extra cash. YMMV

Like said above, Talo is one of the distributors who contract gun manufacturers for special run guns. I don't think they personally add anything to the gun but they do specify the additions they want from the manufacturer. Most of the times you can't get those special features from the original manufacturer because they are exclusive to the special run.

I have an AcuSport S&W 22A that has a special barrel with a fiber optic front sight that can't be purchased from S&W, it was made exclusively for AcuSport. A few other distributors who contract special run guns besides AcuSport and Talo are Lipsey's and Lew Horton.
