Just got one because I love tedious work. I can't find USA made roll caps for the life of me. Three of them (china) in the cap and one in three work ok enough. Has anyone had good sucess with this or do I have to whip up a batch of mercury fulminate? I think I'm gonna add this thing to my SHTF stuff.:) I read an article on hunting in China with muzzleloaders and they would use black powder inbetween two layers of a plastic grocery bag held on the nipple by a rubber band. It seemed to work well in the article. As I understand it, guns, ammunition and primers/percussion caps are outlawed in China, but black powder and shot are sold at the hardware stores. Muzzleloaders are available under the table but are parts guns and mostly caplocks. Why they don't make them flintlocks is beyond me.

I bought one several years ago, had some fun making the caps on a slow day, had alot of aggravation trying to get them to ignite the powder in the cylinder. They make a nice bang but they never set off the charge. Ever. I know it's the cap centers I'm using - I bought them at Walmart, the red rolled paper caps. I tried one, two, three and four centers but nothing. I even tried the red plastic caps. Nothing. Some guys have good luck with the TapOCap but not me.

i came close to buying one a few years ago. however after reading all that everyone had to say about them i gave up on that idea.
