I just bought a 1974 Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 tonight. Anyway it is in great overall condition except for a couple places on the barrel that rust got to work on. Bore is in mint condition...I digress from my question though...

It came with a Tasco 620W (made in Japan) scope mounted on it and looks crystal clear inside. I'm debating on whether to trade it off or put it right back on and shoot with it. I did some searching and I found some posters of this old classic where they were selling for 39.99 in the day. I've got other nice scopes to use, but see the charm in using the old scope. Maybe I could mount it on my Savage 340. BTW this would be a hunting rifle in Florida with occasional trips to KY farmland. Not my first rifle, but my first Tasco scope of 40 years of age.

What can anyone tell me about these scopes? Any good? Value if sold? Etc...

Thanks for any info and help on this,
Kevin

Iirc, the "W" line was introduced in the '70s as Tasco's waterproof, new, improved scope. So the 620W wasn't just an oddball one off scope.

I wouldn't trust it on a long expensive trip, but otherwise if it works it works.
____________

scopes advertised in 1976 were the,
620W Super Marksman 3-9x40 and variants
612W Brush Scanner 1.5-5x40 and variants
616W Target Marksman 4-12x40 and variants
655W Super Hunter 2.75x40 and variants
640W Super Ranger 4x40 and variants
690W Super Deerslayer 6x40 and variants
700W Varmint 10x40 and variants

Sounds like a candidate for my niece's 22. Many thanks for the informative reply.
