Hi, everybody. I have a PT-145 that went full auot on me. I have had a double fire problem the last two times at the range, and I cleaned the pistol completely, each time. After a few mags, it went back to the double fire problem. Soaked it in Hopps, dried and lubed. Took it back to range, fired fine for a few mags, then BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM! Four shots, 1 trigger pull. :what: The range master came charging in, and I was cleared and safed before he got there, told him I did not know what happened, and the gun would be going back. But, since Taurus has had questionable service, I wanted to hit you all up and see if there were any suggestions. Any help is appriciated. Thanks.

Get it to them ASAP . Their service is questionable at times. But that pistol is dangerous to you and for them If some one was hurt with it. Lawyer would love this one. Iam sure be fixed or replaced . Just might be a while.

Gen3 PT145 has fairly light SA trigger. Mines at about 4 lbs after break in.

To rule out any "bump fire", I would do a range test by pulling back on the trigger and holding it back without resetting the trigger.

If you cannot repeat the double/auto fire, I would suspect possible bump fire.

Is the trigger stock or has it been "modified" or "lightened"?

If there is any issue with the trigger, I would contact Taurus CS.

Ok, back again. I believe this is a third gen. I have measured the SA trigger weight at around 5 lbs. I am fairly sure the trigger is not being held back. I have tried the single fire from rest, but the gun seems to be firing fine, and trigger resetting the way it should. But then I fire a few mags, and it happens again. Stock trigger, the only thing modified on this gun are the sights. I have not seen any indication that the firing pin is stuck in any way, and I have tried to clean it completely, even sitting the assembly in an ultrasonic cleaner for 20 minutes. I will be sending it in to Taurus, and see what they say. I have never heard of this, nor seen any other report on the webs, so I was wondering if any of you have heard of it. Thanks for the thoughts.

Sounds like a sear broke like it did on my Glock 21 I own. First 3 shots went off, sent it to Glock for repair and yepper,it was the sear,it broke, was fixed and still have it but, hardly shoot it anymore.

I believe this is a third gen.
On the slide:
2nd Generation has Millenium Pro on one side, PT145 on the other.
3rd Generation has Millenium on one side, and Pro PT145 on the other.

Which one do you have?

I saw my friends pro in .40 go full auto as well. It was on its hundredth round of the day when it started double firing. At first we thought it was just getting bump fired. Then it cut loose full auto.

Me being a die hard S&W guy I was quick to capitalize on the moment. When he returned the gun he got his money back and I twisted his arm into buying a M&P9, and he ended up loving it!

You're lucky....I couldn't get mine to shoot two times in a row without jamming Tursday. That's with two different mags and FMJ's, and a clean unfired PT145.

ritepath, your PT145 jamming issue maybe due to the magazines, especially if your new PT145 is jamming with factory RN bullets. PT145 chamber is fairly generous and is one of better feeding/chambering pistols I have shot, even with SWC bullets.

I would call Taurus customer service and have them replace the magazines.

They send out pre-paid mailing label for defective magazines. I had one of my PT145 magazines replaced and the new magazine is working fine.

Well, I took the plunge, and sent my pistol in. I sent it on the 17th, they received it on the 20th, and I was settled in for a long wait. NOT:what:
I received an e-mail saying that my pistol was returning on Friday, just 3 days after Taurus got it. :p And true enough, it came in Friday at 1024 that morning. I was VERY IMPRESSED. Saturday I took it out to the family ranch, and ran 2 boxes of hardball and 1 box of my personal defense rounds through it. Damn, it ran great. No hang-ups, no problems, shot exact to my previous point of aim, outstanding. The only change was that the trigger is now better, no creep, nice crisp release. I have yet to check the weight, but it does seem a little lighter. All around, I am, even more, a fan of Taurus and this little gun. Only complaint I have is that the paperwork that came with it only stated that the firing pin was broken, and was replaced.

Great. I love happy endings. :D

Maybe Taurus finally took notes from some USA gun manufacturers on fast repair work and great customer service!

Time will tell, but good to hear your prompt repair/return.

The Taurus customer service horror stories are pretty much a thing of the past, because most current stories I hear are about like yours. They have really cleaned up their act in this department.

The only thing the paper said was "Firing pin broken, replaced". I guess, depending on how it broke and if it was lodged somehow, that could have caused the full auto problem. Time will tell, but it ran great for me now.

That's a whole lot more information than 99% of the repair invoices I've seen from them. Most of them only say "Problem Found: JAMS Resolution: ADJUSTED" no matter what the problem or what parts were replaced.
