Taurus PT99 AF

Hey yall, I recently stopped by my local shop and spied a mint condition Taurus PT99 with wood grips for $350. I have no experience with the Taurus clones of the Beretta 92/M9, but I really liked it. About a year ago I rented a Beretta 92 and ran about 150 rnds through it with no problems. It was quite accurate. I am interested in picking the Taurus up, but need some better insight. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Also is 9mm still relatively cheap and plentiful?

I like them and have had several. Never had any trouble out of any of them. Get ready for the taurus bashers though. Dont think any ammo is cheap and plentiful. I think 9 is pretty common now though.

My 99 has served me well for years. I still carry it hunting and take a lot of flack for using an auto. Funny thing is I have taken more javelina with it than the guys who mock my using an auto have with their revolvers. I also have the pt100 in 40, both have performed excellent for me. I actually sold my Beretta 96 in favor of my Taurus.

I had a PT99 for a number of years--it was a fine weapon made on Baretta tooling in Brazil--gave it to my sister for her protection--she still has it & it is working fine.

I bought a PT99AF in 1988 new for $225. I've got about 20k rounds and it is still the most accurate 9mm I've ever owned. The only problem I had was after 12 years or so the rear sight leaf broke. I has carried this as a duty weapon for about 5 years so it did get banged once or twice in the holster. Taurus fixed it under warranty and turnaround was about 2 weeks at the time.

The only modification I made was Pachmyr grips. The satin nickel finish has held up 100% much better than the satin nickel on my Colt Combat commander. Mine shoots best with just about any 147 gr bullet.

A new one lists for $589 so $350 sounds like a good deal. The warranty is also still there which you can't say for most used guns.

ps I'm not sure if Taurus changed the design of the firing pin. They used the same design as the Beretta and if you dry fire without a snap cap you may break the firing pin. Never did this on a Taurus but I did on a 1980s era Beretta. Just something to keep in mind.
