While out looking at guns today my friend really liked the Taurus Tracker Titanium .357 with 4" bbl. Here's a Pic:
It's ported, but he's not using it for home defense - I understand a ported gun indoors or in the dark is a bad idea with extra flash and noise. It's more of backpacking and range gun for him. Will the porting be good for this application? Does it really reduce muzzle flip and felt recoil? Are ported revolvers loud enough to annoy people at the range?
