Since they are school age, a hunter's safety course is a good place to send them. There will be plenty of kids in those age ranges, and the instructors should be competent in teaching those ages. They'll probably also get some range time with the class work.

Hunter's safety was the first "firearms training" that my wife was put through, and it did wonders for her in regards to learning muzzle discipline and firearm mechanics.

Definitely look into the "Eddie Eagle" program through the NRA.

Some of it is aimed at slightly younger kids, but you can get great teaching materials on gun safety and could easily tailor it to suit your grand kids.

Definitely look into the NRA material. I am going through this now and can say from experience that there is nothing like "grandpa" teaching them. It's fun for all of you. My 11 year old grandson even likes to help reload. He's wanting to go hunting this year, and I found a place in the eastern plains where we can go shoot rabbits and prairie dogs. As soon as I get done with oncology appointments and the like, I will be taking him. I'm joining him up as a Jr. Member of the NRA as well. Look into that as they get their own magazine geared to them and their age level. Good luck, and enjoy as much as possible.
