I have handled a couple of these, and I really kinda like the idea of a striker-fired gun that simulates DA/SA.

Any P99 owners out there? If I ever got one, it would be a 9mm -- any issues with the 9mm P99s? Any other calibers? General Impressions?

Any info at all would be great.

P99

Hi,

Why not do what I did? Do a Google search. You'll find several valid reviews and comparisons.

Personally, after handling lots of semi's, including Glock, H&K, Sig, Springfield and 1911's, I got the P99.

My final decision was between the Springfield XD and the P99. Perceived balance, grip and other features you will read about convinced me to spend the extra dollars on the Walther.

However, it was a very personal decision. No semi automatic sold today is a bad gun.

I have done google searches in the past, but they only yielded results for the .40 caliber models or thier S&W counterparts. I'll keep trying, though.

You should find some past threads here that discuss the P99. Sounded like plenty of owners here and most responses were positive. I love mine, everything I expected it to be. Seems to me you'll either think the trigger is okay or hate it (spend some time dry firing before you buy one). I tend to hold low on the trigger face so I sometimes scrape the dividing riser in the base of the trigger frame (my bad).

I have one, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. And yes, it's 9mm. The aesthetics, the feel, it all adds up to one really nice gun. It's very accurate, too. Get one, if you can.

A very good gun, I am kinda surprise that it never took off as I expected it, even after the fall in the price .. For me, I have never liked the trigger setup on the standard P99, even though there is the QA version. I also never liked the huge trigger guard which made it feel bulky in the waist.

It got some bad reliability rap in its early days but this I believe has been resolved. Their is a guy, K. Lunde, who is very knowledgeable on this pistol so hopefully he can chip in here with some comments.

Personally I believe the Glock 19 has it beat..almost similiar barrel length and sight radius, lighter, smaller, just as slim, reliable, greater parts availabilty... off a rest, the P99 may be a little more accurate though.

I'm certainly biased :D Walther Fan Page

Had a Glock 19, sold it. I own "several" P99s, all except two in 9mm. Flawless, ACCURATE, reliable, slim, great parts availability.

Come on over to the Walther Forums for more discussions with Walther fans.

Those who have had one refer to them as the gun Glock wishes it was. :D

The 9mm P99 is tack driving accurate, and is probably the most comfortable pistol you will ever hold. The ergonomics are great.

Do a search at the old firing line forum for the P99 that will yield some information.

But for the be all end all, follow James (extremist) advice. Check out his site along with Ken (Lunde) 's sight and the Walther forums. If it's not on one of those three sites, even Walther won't be able to tell you about it.

I have a WALTHER P99 Year 2000, in one word "Wonderful" I also have a Beretta cougar 45 and a Glock 21 I will never let go of the Walther.. My Wife had one also, not a 2000, but she didn't like carrying it because it didn't have a manual safety. She traded it in on a Walther P88 thats what she carries now. The Walther it the most well balanced firearm that I have ever fired..:D
