Tennessee Honors All Other State CCW Permit Or License

Effective July 1, 2003, the state of Tennessee will honor other permits or
licenses to carry as if a Tennessee handgun permit were issued to the
permitee. However, only handguns may be carried. Here is the link to the
legislation with tidbits highlighted.

Does the growing (?) number of states that have CCW reciprocity have any positive effect on other states that don't have (maybe being forced to have) reciprocity?

In other words if 25-30 states all have reciprocity, is it likely that those who don't would be able to hold out?

Could NJ be forced to honor my PA license?

What a concept, trusting law abiding citizens to exercise thier rights and to take resposibility for their own personal safety. Tennessee is a better and safer place because of it.

Now if we can only get the law changed so we can carry in establishments that serve alcohol. Something visitors might want to remember if your state is different.

Keith, thanks for the reminder. Yes, those of us in less restrictive states may forget that. "But, officer, I was just having a Kingfisher with my chicken makhani. I do it all the time in Yankeeland."

Will be down in a couple of months. I'll force myself to read Orange statutes before leaving.

Just to clarify, a person carrying concealed my not drink while carrying in TN. Furthermore, a person carrying concealed may not carry into a business that sells/serves alcohol for on premise consumption. One may carry into a store that sells booze, but restaurants that sell are off limits.

They are working on it. I feel pretty good about the next session. Fingers crossed.

I hope you are right, but do you have any specific reason to be hopeful about the next session? Why should it be any different from this session?

IIRC it died in committee this year because of a political squabble, along with about six other bills. But it seems to have growing support and the GA has made some good amendments in the past. That and there is always hope. :)
