I have an idea. Here's what we do - get one state, say New Jersey. No, make that Texas. Pass laws that make carrying a gun mandatory. Nothing less than a 32 cal. Everyone over age 18. Track all gun related homicides and shootings from the date the law takes effect. Laboratory conditions. All arguments settled. What do you think??

crabtree44 is happy!
After 2 weeks(October 23)you folks keep feeding this miserable, low self esteem troll after I suggested we ignore the pitiful speciman.
Will you finally stop?

No more comment on school shootings?

Kennesaw, GA did just that in the 1980's. http://publicrights.org/Kennesaw/NewsMax2001.html

Winchester, name calling is the last resort of a loser.
Oh, maybe you be the boss. Sorry. I submit my resignation. ;)

RE: Virginia Tech Shootings
If our gun control laws had been enforced properly, the student would not have been able to buy the two pistols he used in that crime.

Back on topic:
J. Patterson's refusal to consider selling the Christmas Mountain area to the National Park Service is an immoral action. He is selling the people of Texas down the river because of his personal beliefs. Whether we agree with the NPR policy on firearms or not is irrevelent in this case and should not enter into Texas' decision on the property. The interests of the citizens of Texas, as well as other states, is of primary importance here. Nothing anyone has posted here has changed my mind on this.
How's that for back on topic?

Please explain then, how the interests of Texas citizens, who are mostly pro-gun, pro-hunting etc would be advanced by selling the land to the NPR which would prohibit both.

Excluding the NPS from buying the land would be like refusing an inheritance from your rich uncle because he was a Democrat.
Sure you disagree, but it is a bit like cutting off your own nose.
Let the land be preserved by the NPS rather than privitized and made inaccessible to the citizens of Texas and work through your elected representatives in Washington to change the NPS rules.
In the end, we don't own the land. We just hold title to it while we walk the earth. But we can sure take care of it for our decendents.
The point is I don't disagree with Patterson on his principles, but I sure do on his strategy.

I have seen no evidence it will become inaccessible to the public if it's not sold to the NPS. But I have seen evidence to the contrary that it will be required that whomever buys it allows public access. You seem to be under the assumption that only the NPS is able to/going to leave it open to the public, which is incorrect.

I wonder, has the USFS shown any interest in the land? They buy land up here occasionally.

NPS firearm ban

I went backpacking in Yellowstone a few years ago with my family and was pretty surprised about the firearm ban (didn't know about it). We were very isolated and in grizzly country and I (and my wife) would have much preferred if I'd been allowed to carry.
