I started with AK because cheap steel case ammo and no reloading or brass scrounging to deal with. Now a decent AK is quickly moving beyond a comfortable price range for me in terms of a new rifle. I will wind up with an AR by default. Though they aren't particularly interesting to me they have proliferated to a level that, as a gun owner in today's day and age, I can't afford not to have one or two any longer. Talked to my FFL about an AR pistol this week. The brace for pistols finally sealed the deal for me.

Are you leaning towards a pistol or rifle caliber AR pistol?

I was hunting, shooting and reloading long before buying my first AK. I bought it when Firearms News was still Shotgun News. :) As I'm an accuracy addict. Although I have more than few AKs (7,62, 5,45, and 5,56), I lean towards the AR (6,8 SPC, 5,56 and .223/5,56 Wylde chamber).
As I don't trade or sell firearms and bought them since the 1960s having more than a few was fairly easy. In short, I'm not rich, I'm old..
.

Definitely going to be a 5.56 as I don't have anything chambered for that round and the AR is too cheap and common not to have. At current prices literally anyone can afford a basic AR, it's truly the ideal time to buy. If I had my choice I'd get an AK pistol and brace because I just like the beater simplicity of an AK and have plenty of mags/ammo but the Pap or Century pistol is $650 +/- plus the cost of brace. I'd rather add 5.56 to my collection and take on a new caliber and deal with mags/ammo than pay that much for an AK pistol.

I'm AA or Accuracy Addicted or ARs with quality or tailored reloads which are well South of a MOA. Bolt rifles even further South.
I love AKs, they are the equivalent of a bar room brawler. OTOH, the 16" to 18" AR adds accuracy and effective envelope.. The 20"and 24" maintain velocity even farther. I have nothing against either AK or AR as they both do well at what they were intended to do.
I'm not knocking anyone's choice; I have mine and they have theirs. As long as they support the 2nd; I agree with them.

I have a Gwinn Bushmaster Arm pistol; as it is uncommon: http://www.biggerhammer.net/armpistol/variants.html
Unfortunately, no arm brace is made and the muzzle blast/flash is atrocious.. As a good bud said I could light a cigar. I answered I'll buy you the cigar and watch.
I've tinkered with reloads (mostly powder) to minimize the flash and now it does a lot better.. It would be a lot better with an arm brace; OTOH, as a "trench broom" it kicks butt..

Edit: BTW, I have a very understanding wife.. LOL
