Greetings,
In a thread on the defensivecarry.com site I told of my experience with a holster order from Mark Garrity http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulle...t=Mark+Garrity
That takes care of the bad.
The good is that since re-establishing communication with Mark through the aforementioned site he has kept me appraised of the progress of my order and even shipped me the holster and mag pouch as soon as they were done and he was still working on the belt without requesting payment.
Dec 22, 2010 I received my belt from Mark Garrity and have worn the set frequently ever since. This rig is exactly what I ordered right down to the specifics of how I wanted the sweat shield angled and constructed. This is an LH IWB holster in shell cordovan horsehide, suede backed with black stingray trim with a matching mag pouch. The belt is a full coverage stingray dress belt 1.25" with an internal stiffener. All stitching is straight and even, the edges are all correctly radiused and polished. The color is even and the molding is precise and snug.
My 3" Kimber Ultra Elite locks in to the holster with an almost audible "thunk" when inserted. It won't fall out even if shaken upside down. Yet, when drawn it comes out with virtually no effort.
Compared to my other favorite holster, a Milt Sparks VM-II, this the most comfortable holster I have ever worn. My pants feel more comfortable with the holster on than off. It feels more like some kind of lumbar pad rather than a holster.
Additionally, the suede creates a feature I call "anti ratchet". With all of my other holsters, as I go through the day reaching up here and there, my shirt will pull out and catch, pull out and catch, until it is un-tucked around the holster. So usually, a few times a day I have to tuck the shirt back in.
Not so with this one. The suede "locks" any shirt or sweater fabric so that the area in contact with the holster does not move or ride up at all.
The belt is very comfortable with perfectly rounded and polished edges. Its stiff enough to hold up much more gun than it is asked to and yet is thin enough to be worn with dress pants.
I hope that in the future Mark is able to develop a business model to match his considerable talents as a holster maker and leather smith. He is a true artist.
So, on to the BBQ rig!
