The sale is in bad taste to clearly capitalize on the movie.

whose criminal misuse of this particular firearm is one of the main reasons that YOU can't legally own a real fully-automatic Thompson gun.

+1 to what the guy said about Dillinger being one of the reasons WE the law abiding can't own a real tommy gun.

No, crooked politicians are why you cannot own those firearms. There is hundreds of thousands of citizens who abuse numerous items on a regular basis that could be used to ban virtualy everything in society.
You could ban all vehicles that go over the speed limit and then blame people racing who resulted in deaths.
You could ban every type of gun, especialy handguns, as well as many long guns and everything else and come up with numerous examples of criminals misusing them. Cite how handguns are involved in most crime. Then once they are banned and criminals make due with new weapons they modify to be concealable cite how those are the new public threat requiring banning.
You could ban the availability of numerous chemicals which can be misused for various criminal activities.
Ban smoking, drinking etc and cite health concerns.
I could cite almost everything, and create logic that shows deaths that result from the freedom and how people would be safer with fewer freedoms.
You could ban or remove every single right privilidge or form of freedom in America and cite numerous examples of those freedoms resulting in harm, and give logicial examples of why everyone should be safer as a result.

If politicians had managed to ban all handguns after the Virginia Tech Massacre would that mean that specific criminal was responsible for getting handguns banned for us? No, it would be politicians exploiting tragedy to reign in freedoms, especialy freedoms that make thier subjects a little more feared.
Dillinger is not why you cannot own those weapons. Politicians, especialy those worried after a large number of soldiers marched on Washington to demand payment for World War 1, is why you cannot buy those firearms.
Criminals glorified in the media was just a convenient exploitable excuse to seriously infringe on one of the few rights the Constitution says they cannot infringe on.

There was actualy fewer criminals commiting fewer crimes per capita than there is today. That is a big reason they were so famous, just like many wild west criminals before them. The reality was such criminals were very rare back then, while today your average gangster killing several people on a criminal spree would not even be out of the ordinary. So they were unique and fascinating back then making thier way into the history books, while today they would have been merely another criminal.

The Dillinger commemorate aside, I don't get the whole idea behind pimping 500 guns with someone's face in gold leaf and calling it a commemorative, period.

IMHO, if anyone makes a John Dillinger tribute gun, it should be carved out of wood. From what I understand, Dillinger was one of the few "gangsters" that didn't want to go around shooting anyone. IIRC, he only shot one man and was arrested without a fight. This doesn't justify his actions by any means, I'm just saying that not only is a firearm commemorative ironic, it's in poor taste.

Well the same ad is in the latest issue of American Rifleman. I'd love to have one but I'm not paying $3200 for one.

Model of 1905: Thanks for pointing that out. There is also sidebar in the article on Purvis and Dillinger promoting this commemorative. Guess they don't need my money.

Very poor taste indeed. I wonder what Marketing "whiz" came up with this plan and if they have ANY concept on what the actions of Dillinger, et al, had on gun control?

My guess is they do not and they most likely don't care.

Some folks will do anything for a buck.

Thanks for posting.

I guess it is about time for a gold plated M1 Carbine to celebrate the life of Che.:barf:

How did they pass up that opportunity for sales earlier this year when that movie came out..............

America Remembers is nothing more than a second-rate plating service churning out engraved crap to credulous morons.

LOL

I think you may be giving them too MUCH credit here.:)

Most likely I am. Aren't they affiliated with that company that takes historical guns like WWII era 1911's and Lugers and tacks all that eye-stabbingly bad gold crap on them?

Nothing more than bling for fat middle-aged men with comb overs and Walter Mitty complexes.
