Despite my dire prediction that the gun shop would become collateral damage from fallout from the Ft. Hood Shooting it opened anyway.
Short Review:
- A small one counter affair. One revolving rack for Rifles and shotguns.
- Long Guns- Mostly Remington, Mossberg, Armalite, DPMS in the long case - Most expensive rifle was An AR-10 from Armalite for $1400. Also carried Century AKs for $468. No 10/22s or entry level .22s but there was an MP15? Well okay.
- Hand guns were a variety of cheaper models of revolvers Rossi/ Taurus, many Glocks, A Berretta 92, and a Springfield 1911 for about $850. There was even an NAA derringer in there.
- Accessories - Best scope was a cheap Nikon or an EOTech 516 (for $450). Lots of spare mags in stock and prices were decent. Most Walmart type stuff available.
- Ammo- A little bit of the most common rounds. Federal .308/ $20 box, No cheap rimfire or any kind of bulk packs of anything. Did not seem to be out of anything.
Counter help was all of 19 years old. Didn't know a wit about guns but did know how to remove the trigger locks that were on all the guns, even the ones locked in the cases. He knew how to open actions and make weapons safe. Had to check my ID to verify my age as being old enough to buy (I am over 40) just for looking. Told me that there was a security camera looking at the desk all the time to verify that he checked ID.
No real bargains but no taxes or shipping either. Most guns were geared for active military shooters or concealed carry. No 5.7mm guns.
I am curious from the other military, does your PX/BX have a gun shop?
