Why is it closed? I thought it could have been very entertaining and the source of some good discussion. All TV cop shows (Barretta being another one, as well as "Police Story", "S.W.A.T." and "CHIPS") were anti-gun. I maintain that that's why the Dirty Harry movies of exactly the same time were such a hit. While Telly Savalas sucked on a lollipop and yelled for "Starvros!!" in every episode, Clint Eastwood was filling the void and theatres with his .44 and catch phrases.

Don't forget some of the sitcoms of the era. The shows "Barney Miller" and "M.A.S.H." (where the Korean war soldiers had 1970s haircuts and used 60s and 70s slang) constantly preached anti-gun.

Because THR deals with real life, not make believe TV and movie life. Does TV paint a general negative picture of gun owners? Yes. Do movies have terrible gun handling? Yes. Nothing new there. And nothing to do with the stated mission of THR.

If you want to talk about movies and tv shows there are many forums out there that do just that. IMDB has a forum.
