So S&W started making Stainless steel revolvers around 1980, by the end of 1982 they stopped making pinned and recessed models. So who here has a P&R Stainless steel gun and what model is it? I looked but could not find a single discussion thread dedicated to P&R Stainless steel Smiths.

I have a 1981 629 no dash .44 magnum with a 6" barrel It is pinned and recessed. I will post a picture of it shortly.

Have an S&W 66 that's pinned and recessed, also stainless front and rear sights. Have a model 629 no dash that's not pinned or recessed, dang it. Sorry about the nastiness, just fired couple hundred rounds and not cleaned yet

I'm curious about the origin of the idea that stainless started around 1980. 1965 would be the same as 1980 from the perspective of geological time, but not in gun years. ;)

Like Driftwood, I prefer blue steel, but do have one in stainless steel.

Model 66-1, Virginia State Police 50th anniversary. (1932-1982) Number 194 of however many they made.

Well, by George, it's half actually. Not pinned, but recessed.

It has the wooden presentation case also. I should have taken a picture of it, too.

The VA SP run was 1500 guns in 1982.

A lot of Agencies did commemoratives on the 66 platform. I worked for the MT Hwy Patrol and we did a M-66 in 1979. A total of 213 guns.

Our Fish & Game Wardens carried 66's and had the Factory roll engrave their logo on the sideplate. Sort of a commemorative type gun, but they were duty weapons. A total of 130 guns.

I have a 2 1/2" and 4" S&W 66 ND both of course pinned and recessed.
Like the others said your way off on your time line and only magnums and .22's are recessed.

My time line is off. The 629 was first produced in 1978, the 66 in 1970, not sure if there are other magnums that were P&R between 1970 and 1978 and what the number manufactured is or rarity. I don't see very many discussed on line though.

I have a 66 4" marked S.D. Sheriff that's pinned and recessed. Nice gun but trigger is heavier than my m10. Certainly accurate though.
