The Savage legend proves true with this one

I have a couple or three of the pre accutrigger Savage center fires myself. A 308, 30-06, 270, and a 243. Every one of them was a superb shooter out of the box, and with good glass and my "rotten" reloads are minute of nickle shooters at 100 YDS if I do my part. The 270 was the most expensive I think ~$200 with glass IIRC. I also have a newer 308 with an Accutrigger and it is just as accurate but the trigger has better preloading IMHO.

I love savages. Here's a group I shot the other day. 168g SMK hand loads off my bipod (not a Harris either!) at 100 yards. This rifle will do this all day long if I do my part. I was bore sighting a new (used) scope. Squares are 1".

Looks like a .667" group mugsie. Not bad at all. Very nice.
