Over the past week one of the local gun shops has been having a going out of business sale. The owner has decided to retire after having the shop open for years and years. Over the past week the place has been completely mobbed with shoppers.

The sale was done and the doors were closing last Friday night. I decided to check out what was left late on Friday and was suprised to see a very nice, slightly used S&W 686 Plus w/ a 6 inch bbl still in the case. It was marked down to $270 with box, papers, spent casing and both keys to the internal lock. There were two guys at the counter as well who were interested in it and spent 5-10 minutes each playing with it. Both wanted it but neither one could come up with the cash for it.

Before the clerk puts it back in the case I asked to see it. The gun was in great shape, very clean, the cylinder locked tight and the trigger was very good. I was just about to tell the clerk I would take it when the owner walks up and asks if I'm interested in it. I said yes I was interested and he looks at the tag. He says to me. I'll sell it to you for $200. Well needless to say SOLD!!!!!!! :D

The two guys who looked at it before me both piped in that they would of took it for that. From what I heard, they were holding the gun for someone who was going to buy it. The sale fell through they put it back in the case Friday. You always hear about people getting good deals. Never happened to me before. Well until now that is. It's to bad the place is closing though.

Anyone else have a sweet deal fall into thier lap?

I ran into what I considered a good deal Friday also. The State Gaming Commission (casinos and such) used to carry Sig Sauer P230 SL in 380. Well, they traded them in. Well one of the ones that they traded in, had not been shot. The others were obvious with the holster wear. But this one still had grease residue in the frame rails and both mags were still wrapped up. They gave me the gun and a new Don Hume leather belt holster for $325. I was pretty happy with it seeing how the gun is much higher than that new in the box. Just lucked across one that happened to be New in box. I shot it Friday afternoon and it shoots absolutely wonderful. Glad you found you a deal. GS

Traded a 4" Taurus Tracker 627 (90%) for a 6" S&W 686 (98%). The 686 looked like 80% before the Flitz, which is probably why the dealer took the Tracker.

A great deal, now that I look back at it. :)

"May the sun shine that brightly on the rest of us"

A Smith & Wesson 686 + LNIB for $270; then reduced
further to $200! I think you need to be sworn in as the
newly crowned THR purchasing agent for the rest of us.
As super deals of that magnitude are few and far between!

The best deal I EVER expect to come my way...Colt Diamondback, .22, 6"...just because I didn't quit my job. Three quit and I stayed...the boss was glad. :D Me too. Any time I'm in the gun shops it seems they think highly and dearly of every piece of rust in the place. You guys that find these great deals in the shops ...well, I'm happy for you! Doesn't happen to me.

I posted this thread on the Smith & Wesson forum as well and one of the two guys that were looking at the 686 before me responded. It's interesting to actually put a face with people who respond to these threads.

He gave me a congrats on the purchase. I guess it's nice to get a good deal every once in a while. Now if I could just find a way to get that kind of a deal on a new M-4gery I'd be an even happier man. ;)

I'm not holding my breath on that one though. Lightning isn't about to strike twice.

I paid $350 for a used (ever so slightly, in fact, the clerk at the shop where I had the transfer done was surpised when I told him I got it used) Italian made Beretta 92fcompact. It was in excellent condition, hard to tell that it was ever fired, except for some bluing missing on the mag.

I took it apart and all the externals were perfect, no powder build up at all, seemed brand new except for that mag. It's my first gun, and now my carry gun, love it.

686+ for $200! Dang, that's like getting a lap dance for...$1! :D
' best thing I did was my Ruger Single Six purchase, ' paid $100. ' came w/ some ammo and a nice holster. Enjoy!
