At least according to IANSA.

Considering especially the recent surge in new gun purchases, the number of privately owned firearms in the United States is probably very close to 300 million. This means that one out of every three firearms on the planet is owned by a private citizen of the United States. And this includes all police and military forces worldwide.

Just something to ponder. :)

That has been the case in the USA for a long time. It is one of the things that keeps us free.

Wasn't it Hirohito that said, "You can never invade America...there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."?
Pretty sure it was him, but I could be wrong.
There's no ammo, but there's a lot of rifles.

I figured it would of been higher.

Aren't over 50,000,000 of those guns AK47's?

so we have 1/20th of the world population, but 1/3 of the firearms. :)
that gives me a warm happy feeling inside. that is almost 7 times the average world rate of firearms per person.

I think it's more like 5,000,000.:( Still enough to point one at every soldier in the indian and chinese army I think.

I don't think a number can be put on it. I bet it's more than 1 billion.

And as far as getting invaded I am expecting it to be the blue berets. :p

Most Americans who have Guns...have more than one for everyone they know, who does not.

So...yeah...the real figure, for America anyway, is probably much higher...and UK wise, probably, many are hidden, hoping for a better day...

If we ALL go out and buy another rig this weekend, we can kick that 300,000,000 number up a notch. :)

I have the ones that my family needs, I'll watch your back if you watch mine. If any of them blue berets come out of yonder mountains

That # seems a little low to me. I've seen estimates as high as about 1 billion, which makes the whole idea of passing laws saying you can't have one even more stupid.

It is true that somewhere north of 50 million AKs have been produced. If it's not the most produced firearm in history, it is certainly close.

over 100 million AK-47s total have been produced. About 2 million are made each year; half of that number is manufactured illegally without proper patenting or licensing. The total number could be well over 200 million.
