I received the following email in the last hour. Now, I could write pages about the CCW bill, about concealed carry nationwide, about the God-given right to self-defense, about the meaning of the 2nd, about FBI stats, state government stats, about the lies that have been spread by the media in WI and the lies that have been spread by the associations that represent the "chair polishers" in the various LEO departments.

I could do all that, but it would take many hours, and certainly more hours than the deadline this student has given me.

But doesn't it strike you as incredible that she would ask for any or all of this eight hours before she leaves for class? :(

*************

Could you please let me know the status as of 12-03-03 on the issue of Carrying a Concealed Weapon. This is for extra credit project and the sooner you can get back to me the better. I leave for school at 6:30 am.

Thank You,
Holly

find an internet link to the entire volume of state statutes regarding firearms laws - and e-mail that to her.

Wow. I wonder if she thinks it's simple enough to answer in a short definitive statement? Even so, pretty irresponsible of her to wait until this late to ask. I'd either do what dukeofurl said, or simply wait then reply in the morning "Oh, I'm sorry, if you had emailed me a day earlier I could have replied in time!" to try and teach her a lesson. (Then again, I'm a chronic procrastinator - it's bitten me in the ??? many a time and I never seem to learn! ;))

Dick, we aslo see those types of requests here on the forums every so often:" need help writting a paper - please describe in 5000 words or less ... be sure to compare ..."

Go do your own homework!

Easy. Here would be my reply to the student.

In most states it's legal with a permit. In the rest it isn't. Except for Vermont and Alaska where carry is universally allowed.
In those where you can get a permit some states are "shall issue" while the rest are "may issue". More details are available at www.packing.org
Good luck with your extra credit. If my information is not enough, the internet is open all night.
