They actually get paid for doing that?!

Hi all, just wanted to share my jealousy and raw envy that I have over a recent shooting expedition my best friend was fortunate enough to participate in.

Some people join the Army, Marines, SWAT, FBI, etc. to get their hands on automatic weapons, all far too dangerous for me. In Hollywood we just have Propmasters, my best friend was lucky enough to be taken to a range where ex-Military instructors teach handling techniques to the cast of TV/Movies through a prop house he used to work at (his Mom currently works at.) Even though a couple of the guns were firing blanks, the blanks were heavy loads to simulate a bullet being fired. I am pretty sure I got most of the models correct, if not do not hold me to it, this is transcribed from an excited e-mail he wrote me on break.

He shot a:
S&W .38 Snubbie
Khar-9
FNP9
FN57
Mauser 98
Bennelli 12 Gauge
Kailic? 20 Gauge
Colt SAA (even got to fan it a few times)
Deringer (unknown caliber but small and deadly accurate)
Black powder Colt
S&W .460
Tek-9/Skorpion (way too jumpy to be fun)

O.k. here is where I start to get a little jealous:

AK-47 Full Auto
Luger 9mm
M-4
FAMAS full Auto (which 2x 35round clips lasted about one second each, that is why it is not in the next section)
And a Modified Glock 17 to fire full auto.

And right about here my jealousy knows no bounds:

FN-SAW
Minigun
Humvee mounted Browning .50M2 (and he got to drive the Humvee around a course)
H&K UMP .45
And last but First on the happy to shoot list a H&K MP5 with 3 round burst and full auto.

His day at the range was certainly a fantasy gun camp for most (not all) of us out there, and he probably would have had more trigger time if 1) He didn't have to disassemble, clean, shoot, disassemble again, clean every gun he fired (unlike some of those pretty boy actors) and 2) the place was a SOLID 9 hour drive one way.

So to all those out there that don't necessarily want to commit to 2,4,6, year commissions in the military (but if you do Good for You, and God Bless) get a job in the Movie industry, theres always a Propmaster on every set, and who knows he might take a shine to you. :)

RFB

P.S. Love ya Bud! Just kidding. :)

That's a nice list of guns... but were are the explosives?

I litterally watch and take charge of; 1/4 to 1/2 million rounds go down range every month... we're slow now, but our glory days were as follows.

Week One: M9's and M4's, total SOPMOD kits doing Combat Marksmanship Training.

Week Two: Machine Gun Package, one training day, one shooting day; M249, M240B, M2 & MK19. Explosives, one training day, one shooting day; Hand Gernades, M203 - chalk rounds and HEDP, M136 (AT4) between 6-12 rockets per day

Week Three: Pack up and go to Yuma, Foreign weapons, Glock 19, AK47, PKM, RPK... if time allowed MP5 and other misc, Convoy live fire (shooting on the move 10-35mph) M2 & M240, Basic Urban Skills with sim kits (paint ball adapters to the M4's), instructors attack students with sim's, smoke gernades, M203 flares & smoke, pop up clusters, flares and artilary sims.

Start it all over again... on 3 week cycles.

This is America though; if you have the $$$ you could probly do the same things my students do... although I haven't seen a school that would teach civilians to throw M67 Frag Gernades or shoot live AT4's... although there are M203's for sale at a decent price and $200.oo to the ATF.

Because factory GLOCK 18s are virtually impossible to import, and I'm not sure that GLOCK makes GLOCK 18s domestically. Most entities with select-fire GLOCKs buy the autosear.
Rock'n'roll!
