:( Sad news for Brightwater, I liked that store. I hope they can get new inventory in soon.

Thieves make off with 130 guns in Vancouver smash-and-grab

Officials estimate 130 firearms were stolen early Sunday during a break-in at a Vancouver firearms store.

Investigators are still tallying the total inventory loss from Brightwater Ventures, at 12200 N.E. 60th Way, said Kim Kapp, Vancouver Police spokeswoman. Most of the stolen weapons were handguns.

Around 1:42 a.m., about seven to 10 minutes after the store alarm went off, patrol officers arrived at the store. They found a smashed window and open front door.

The store will probably be put out of the gun business.....

Bad enough that stores have to jump through all the Fed & State laws, but they have to deal with smash-n-grabbers, too. From what I remember, anytime a store is smashed-n-grabbed, gun sales portion of store gets shut down.

. . . Most of the stolen weapons were handguns.

This wasn't your standard "smash and grab."

This was well planned. There were multiple -- maybe several -- perps.

You know how long it takes to load up 130 guns? Even when most of them are handguns?

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if, later, it was discovered that this had been rehearsed and rehearsed after carefully casing the joint.

Once again, we see that common-sense gun control laws effectively keep firearms out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

This store is also not your standard "store front". I think they have two sets of doors to break through to get to the gun area. No windows out front.

They probably did have 130 guns in the display area though.

They were one of the better stocked gun stores in our area that wasn't a purely "hunting-oriented" store.

Gun stores seem to be harder and harder to find out here. I hope this doesn't put them out of business.

Silly me, I figured gun shops locked them all up at night. I know of one here that does, coin shops too. Big drag, moving all that inventory in and out of the cases every day.

Definitely sounds more sophisticated then your average "smash and grab". Smash and grab normally means break the window - grab whatever is just inside the window - and haul tail outta there.

I know many gun shops have a lot of inventory out during the day, but I once watched an episode of "30 Days" where a fervent anti goes and lives with a few "gun nuts" for 30 days. At the store she had to work at, the guy would take all the firearms out of the displays cases and out front and lock them in his vault in the back.

To me, I don't think it is a good idea to leave firearms in the display cases when there's no one else in the store. I'd lock them up - if you are a gun store it seems like the responsible thing to do, IMO. It only takes one stolen handgun to arm a murderous felon - and completely circumvent all the anti's precious laws.

And off topic, but if anyone here hasn't, that 30 Days episode was a pretty good watch. Pretty balanced indeed. You can watch it at hulu.com

I have frequented said gun store and I agree with both 1. that it is too bad that it happened to this particular store (although he did not have surveilance camera's from what i understand(not that that would have stopped anyone)) and 2. It definately would have had to be rehearsed and/or well planned because...yeah 130 guns ain't no joke even if you're just tossing them into duffel bags.
