Thinking about buying a Kimber?

I have one Kimber,a Series 1 Custom Classic Blue finish.Reliability has been excellent,it is very accurate, trigger is decent.I bought it used for a good discount over retail at the time.I have not broken any parts.
As much as I dislike MIM parts, good MIM is a good part, bad MIM is a bad part. This is a "working" gun and not an art piece. These early Kimbers had a good reputation.

IMHO when the Kimber models start going north of $1K,I would look elsewhere. All their models are the same except for finish and options. If they are asking like $1500+ I start looking at Les Baer and other boutique makers.

Rodinal, I concur. I picked up my Custom II for a whopping $600. The original owner said he put less than 100rds through it and I'm inclined to belive him.

Mine eats 200gr SWC's over bullseye like it's candy. Never had a hiccup and turns in outstanding groups.

As pretty as some of the higher end models are, finish, grips, and sights are the only major differences. If I wanted to spend 1k, I'd grab a Colt. A little more and I'd be with a TRP Springfield, more than that I'd look at Les Baer and Wilson combat or Dan wesson.

How much $? If it's more than $800, get a Colt or Dan Wesson.

Keep in mind that the lower model Custom II is built just as well as the higher end models. Usually, it's all just added bling.

You may also prefer 5". If you have to count on a 4" 1911, then definitely look into upgrading to a Colt or DW.
