I have some gun money coming next week and am thinking about what to get next. I am more of a shooter than a collector, and my next pistol will be range use, occasional carry, and possibly starting to shoot a local match or two.

I currently have:

Colt Government 9mm
Colt Defender .45
Colt Mustang XSP .380
Springfield Loaded .45
Kimber Pro Carry II .45
Beretta Mini Cougar 9mm
Browning Buckmark Hunter .22
S&W Model 64 .38 Spl

As you can see, I lean fairly heavily towards metal pistols that are hammer fired. I was looking at Dan Wesson revolvers, but instead I'm going to get something in a 9mm full size double stack.

I'm considering a used Sig P226, a used HK USP-9, a CZ75, Beretta 92FS, or a Walther PPQ M2 5" Target (I know, it's polymer and striker fired but it's caught my eye).

My budget will be $600.00

Any recommendations or suggestions?

I really like the HK VP9 (yes, striker fired). For a revolver, a Ruger GP100 357 mag. It’s a tank and holds up well to a steady diet of full house 357 loads. So many choices, though....

My CZ75 (clone) is my favorite service pistol out of many.

My FiL bought himself one after he shot mine for the first time, and likewise it's his favorite out of the dozens he has.

I got a police trade-in Sig P229 recently, and I really, really like it. I like the CZ slightly better, but the Sig is a FINE shooter.

I like my Beretta 92 and 96 pretty well. They are good pistols. The 96 in particular has a nice trigger.

So of the three I own, I would recommend 1) CZ 2) Sig 3) Beretta

But they're all good pistols and you wouldn't go wrong with any of them.

Sig 229 is a 15+1 magazine, a wee bit shorter than the 226 and hammer fired. I have no CZ experience so I can't compare. Police trade ins will keep you within budget. A used Browning Hi power would fit your requirements too. Good luck.

I fiddled around with carry guns a while until I found the one I liked the best. I bought my first CZ PCR in February of this year and the second CZ PCR in October of this year. 2.9K through the first one and 1K though #2. PCR's run well with all bullets, are light enough to carry all day, but heavy enough to be steady in the hand.

The finish on my PCR's hold up very well to holster use. And they are accurate.

These are the two that I acquired this year:

The CZ 75 and Walther PPQ 5" are both excellent choices. CZ is steel, hammer fired and has 17 round mags. Very accurate and lots of after market parts available. The Walther has an excellent trigger out of the box, nice and crisp with a short reset. After about 12k rounds, my stock trigger pull gauges at 3.5#. It comes with 15 round mags and is also a tack driver.

Another option you might consider is the CZ P09. A polymer, hammer fired, full size gun that comes with 19 round mags and is a very accurate and soft shooter. It would fit in your price range, as they are available new for about $500. I've used all of these in competitions, and the only difficulty is in deciding which to use in the next match.

I think you would like a Hi Power but finding one in your price range may be a challenge. The Walther PPQ would be a good choice if you want to try a striker. I have the 4" M1, the trigger and ergonomics are excellent.

With my smaller hand size I find the Browning Hi-Power to be a perfect fit in a 9mm. double stack magazine auto. Next in line would be a CZ P01, a SIG P228 or P229, a CZ75, and a Beretta Model 92 but mainly if you have a larger size hand.
